Time off work?

Hi all,

I've been with my current company for about 4 months now, I was freelancing for 3 months and they offered me a permy role, of which I accepted and have been a permy now for a month. The company is really stingy with benefits, for example we only get 17 days holiday pa (20 in total but have to take 3 off for xmas as mandatory) and only 3 days a year paid sick leave (anything over that, gets docked from our wages!).

Anyway I only found out my good news a few weeks ago, and haven't told anyone at work yet, til I have my scan etc.

I've had a look at my contract and all other paperwork, but there is no info in there about maternity leave or anything else connected with pregnancy.

Is there any info on the web that I could read up on, that has the minimum a company will offer you. And any time off for scans appts. etc? As I'm already having half day holiday to see the midwife, and I don't want to use all my measly 17 days on scans and appts or what have you - let alone taking holiday days off just to rest! And god forbid if we actually went on holiday!

Also someone mentioned on my other thread about paid sick leave if your pregnant. I've already had one day off sick this year, I have chronic morning sickness which is really getting me down and obv. the tiredness isn't helping and I'd like to take more time off every now and then, until (hopefully!) it passes.

Can anyone shed any light?

I am not sure what you'd be entitled to, i think you have to have been with the company 26 weeks, 15 weeks before baby is due.. but dont quote me on that, the above website should help

As for time of for scans and Midwife appointments, every company should allow you the time of the attend without using your annual leave
 
If u r off sick when pg you get normal sick pay as per your company, after so many days you get Statutory sick which I think is abot £60 a week. If you ae off after 36 weeks with pg related illness ur company can force you to start mat leave.

Regardless of how long you work for them you are entitled to time off for mw/ dr/ hospital appointments and ante- natal appointments

hi check with citizens advice about holidays as i think the law is 4 weeks and if not already going up to six weeks. if you type in statatory maternity pay in google you should be able to get something as you have been working even if not for the full weeks
 
I know with my company, you need to be there for a min of 12mths before you get 12mths of unpaid maternity leave.
