He should join. There's no army in the world scarier than a forum full of (mostly) women, especially women with pregnancy hormones running at full throttle. :flower:

hahahaha too true! I keep telling him too but i think he's being shy...he's rather lerk behind me instead haha

That's pretty powerful. And very true. I don't think it was meant to come across as racist

Sounds like she's very angry with every reason to be. I agree with most of what she says and I don't see the letter as being racist.

I dont think the letter is racist (or at least wasn't supposed to come across that way) but i dont like the way the author shows disrespect for an entire nationality of people, and an entire religion. Islam is the biggest religion in the world is it not? I think to disregard the spelling of their Holy book is a little out of line - if people started calling the bible the bibble or something, and saying they didnt care, i think there would be a bit of an argument. I dunno, it seems inflammatory when it didnt need to be.

Liam served over there and he has nothing but respect for innocent parties on both sides. Anyone who doesnt, should not be involved in the war imo.

You're right. that's how i saw it too.

It wasn't written by a 'British Housewife' at all. It was written by an American Right-wing man called Doug Patton. A bit of digging on the internet will tell you that if you just search a bit. As Jody R said, surely a British person would talk about the London bombings instead? More recent and relevant?.

You might not consider yourself racist but the sentiments in that letter are. They are written in a way to promote fear and intolerance, and that kind of thinking is pretty much going to mean people as a whole are never going to learn to get on with each other.

As per BnB TOS:

Your account is yours alone. You are responsible for any activity created with it. You may not share your account login with anyone. Ignoring this rule may result in your account being restricted or banned.

If your OH wants to say things, he is more than welcome to join up under his account. Otherwise your account will be restricted or banned if he posts under your name again.

Agree with this. I am serving with the Territorial Army, and the 'letter' doesn't sit well with me at all. I won't post my thoughts, but the acts of a few people in a group does not define the religion as a whole.

I have to say, I don't give much of a toss about the rights of Afghani terrorists, which is what they are, so I can sort of see where she is coming from. They are cowardly and pathetic and want to keep their country in the dark ages. Their roadside bombs and IED's don't just kill our soldiers, they kill innocent Afghani children, as do their gunshots.

I have several friends who will never see their husbands again, whose children will never see their fathers, three of those children were babies when their fathers were killed and so will never remember them. Their fathers and husbands who were not only fighting to protect those of us safely sat in front of our computer screens, but also the Afghani people, so forgive me if I am not all that sympathetic to the Afghani insurgents...

No, they do not deserve sympathy. However they do deserve basic human rights even if they do not extend the same cortesy to us. If we devalue them, and strip them of their human rights and treat them like animals, then we become no better than them. Personally, as a Royal Engineer who has earned the right to wear my capbadge and sworn loyalty to my Queen and country I have a huge amount of respect for the job I do even though it's only part time. If we don't keep hold of our morals then what else do we have? We become no better than the terrorists themselves. So you may not care about the rights of our enemies, but we have a duty as serving soldiers to uphold them no matter what we feel personally.

I understand the sentiment of your post, and feel the support you put across for British soldiers though so thank you.

I read the first two points of that letter but i dont need to read any more.

I do not like the tone at all and its attitudes like that that play right into the extremists hands

I completely agree. Very well and politely put

Having an OH who is in the military and has served in Afghanistan, I agree with her points.
