Can i ask you a few questions, please?

I'm doing WW but seem to be putting myself WAY under pressure and to be honest, i'm losing it then eating anything and everything!! I need to be a little easier on myself so have considered CC.

You don't have to answer if you don't wish but it'd be helpful...

How many calories do you have a day?
What's your current weight?
Do you exercise?

I've just been on Nutracheck website (a calorie counting website) and filled in my details on the right-hand side to start the free trial (not gone through with it yet though!!) and it's come up saying for my height/weight i should be having 1400 calories per day - does that sound right or too many? A friend of mine did calorie counting and lost 3.5st in 4months! She said she stuck to 1300 calories a day but she's taller than me - dunno if that made any difference!

All help appreciated :hugs:

Hi

Personally id check few sites to see if all come out at the same calories.
Fitness pal give you calorie intake based on your height/weight and what would be best for you to lose weight sucessfully. Mine say its about 1600 per day i cant remember what weigh that is actually going off though. I do at least 20-30mins per day.

As im on slim fast there limit is 1200-1400 a day. Anything under 1200 is classed as starving your body it wont burn the fat it will store it instead.

Edit : I also weigh out all my portions right down protein, carbs & fat. haha.

Thanks!

I've checked Fitness Pal and that's saying 1200 calories. I don't understand how you're supposed to know the calories for a chicken breast or a jacket potato?

Jeez, i'm such a muppet! :haha:

Alot of the packaging gives you information per 100g now. If it isnt displayed on the front just turn it over gives you the table on the back with all info u need.

Not all packaging on chicken does. Asda chicken doesnt. Iceland chicken does. Im sure Tesco chicken does. Anyways iceland 1 is 153 cals per 100g.

Jacket potato is bit harder as the packaging gives you per 100g boiled which is 76 cals for ones i buy. Going on database on fitness pal should give you information your after. I found 180g of a jack potato is roughly 170cals. Which was only 2 small ones.

Oh i didn't know you could change the settings on fitness pal for grams instead of oz's. I'll have a look into it, thanks a lot :hugs:

i have 1200 ish cals a day, i eat everything i normally would, crisps, chips (except chocolate) and just adjust the rest of my day to fit! everything i eat is on my journal, so you can see how unhealthy i am! & stop that when i stop loosing, don't put yourself under too much pressure, do one thing at a time.. :)

xx

The doctors recommend staying above 1200 over here. To say a person won't lose weight if they eat less is not true though. The body must follow the laws of nature. It might hold on harder at first but as long as you eat less than you burn you will lose weight. I am living proof of that. It's just considered unsafe and unhealthy to lose it too fast and to go too far under 1200.

The only thing about calorie counting is that once you start you'll never stop

i started counting my calories a few years back, and now everytime i put something in my mouth i think how many calories is in it or look at the boxing etc.!

Becomes a nuisance but it helps you understand what you are eating

im just going off information & research ive learnt over the months.

I currently am doing weight watchers from home and calorie counting.

I want to swap from ww to calorie counting but I am just getting my confidence up to do it.

I tend to eat healthy things anyway eg - I love eating salmon but 100g of salmon on ww is 3.5 points when I can get 165g chicken for 2.5 points.
But I know the salmon is better for me nutritiously.

I count all my calories on the food focus website, you can search for foods on their database and it will tell you the calories for that food. Or if you have the packaging with you, then you can enter the food yourself. Really simple and completely free.

I an 5ft 6, 10 stone 8, and to lose 1lb per week my calorie allowance is 1550 per day. Then when I exercise (food focus has a part where you can enter what exercise you have done) I can either eat my exercise calories or I can save them to get a bigger weight loss.

Good luck!!

I'm going to have a good think about which one i want to do, thanks for all your help though :hugs:

Thing is, i do like the treat and takeaway every now and again and it's easy to point it on WW whereas calorie counting i wouldn't have the foggiest :haha:

We shall see though :)

hi
this is a great (and accurate) was of working out how many calories you need and takes exercise into account.

I am 5ft 8 and have 1500 cals per day (but don't count milk, spread or fruit) so perhaps total per day is 1750. I exercise quite a bit and power walk with the pram at least 5 miles per day

I have lost 2 stone 2 lbs in the last 4 months and had the odd treat of take away, eating out every 2 weeks or so
I use my fitness pal and a slimmming world calorie counting book I got from ebay (99p!!)

It's a bit of a faff to weight stuff but once you get into it its quick. You'll tend to eat the same things anyway so you could just keep a record.

good luck
xx
