Hi ladies

I have a couple of questions

my LO is 4 weeks and has started taking ages to take her bottle with stage 1 teats. She also sucks really hard and takes in a lot of air despite us having the closer to nature bottles.

Would I be better getting the variflow teats or the stage 2 teats? What is the difference between them.

I was also expressing 1-2 feeds a day for her until 2 days ago when I moved to exclusive FF. She was having at least one poo nappy a day, and this would normally be quite runny. Since just giving her formula she hasn't had a poo and is currently laying on me squirming and writhing in pain and pushing really hard so I think she needs to go but I keep checking her nappy and there is nothing in there.

Would I be better getting her the comfort formula or continuing with the cow and gate stage 1?

Thanks in advance ladies. Hubby is going to boots on the way home so I need to text him and tell him what to get.

Xxx

I didn't get on with the tommee tippee bottles for that reason; ava was taking ages to finish her bottle and taking in a lot of air = windy baby! I changed to 2nd flow but they were too fast and she was bringing her feeds back up. I also found the variable flow teats rubbish too.. I changd her to boots own bottles and she was ok with them but still a bit sicky then I found the cheapest bottles I could and she loves them!!
Oh, and my midwife and hv said that TT bottles are notorious for this kind of thing! Lol.

Not much help but just wanted to share :) Hopefully someone else has some advice for you.

I'd try the variflow in your situation. The difference is that the variflow has a X shaped hole, so the harder your LO sucks, the more comes out. The stage 2 teats have a . like the stage ones, it's just a bit bigger. You can use variflow right through regardless of age and formula thickness. You need to take a bit more care in looking after them as they are more prone to splitting. Take care when cleaning, and give it a little squeeze before you sterilise each time to make sure the X isn't starting to extend (it's obvious when it does).

I would say it's best not to switch to comfort formula until you've had a chat with your HV. Because it's thicker it's common to drop the quantity which may affect weight gain. HV knows your baby and can help you decide if it's the right thing to do.
