OK, I just calculated LO's milk intake for today. It was 44 ounces!! I knew she was hungry, but really!?! Is this too much for her age? How can I decrease her amount?
might be worth seeing what type of milk your little one if drinking and then maybe change it or add more solid food, 44oz is a lot i guess but if she is sleeping well and eating her solid food well then i wouldn't worry to much.
The recommended amount is about 20oz, but a bit more or less either way would be 'normal'.
Does she always drink this much, because I know Evan has days of not having much, then makes up for it the next day!
What does she eat in terms of solids?
What was she on before weaning? Do you do BLW or TW? Is any of it night feeds?
Earl, at his height, was on 56oz a day some days. Since weaning he's dropped to an average of around 30oz (today he's had 32oz) but some days will still have up to 36oz. This is a drop from what he had prior to weaning (average at 40oz) but not much of one. He is currently having 2 night feeds - 1 8oz at around 11pm and then another 6oz at around 3am so that accounts for a lot of it.
I thought that the 18-21oz recommnedation was a minimum rather than an average?
Personally I wouldn't be worried about the amount of milk she's having until you get closer to 12 months. Up to that point milk should be the majority of their food anyway. Especially if you're BLW, their food intake may not be that much before 9 months even, so it's good that the milk is still there. I'm banking on Earl making the transition by himself, but then again both me and hubby were milk fiends as kids so I can see me having to a buy a dairy herd at some point in the future to keep up!
My LO is 15 months and he's still having at least 36oz formula milk a day.. Some days this goes up to as much as 54oz depending on his appetite and what he's eaten.. (Bearing in mind it's a 9oz bottle at a time) He's on solid food too, and he's a solid lad, he likes his morning and evening bottles, and one in the afternoon for routine..
I think providing bubs is happy with what you're doing then don't sweat it, tbh.. She'll let you know if it's too much or two little
