ive just started giving my lil one a bottle in the evening as i dont think shes getting enough from me, feel like i cant give her what she needs :( anyone else feel like this ??

Can I ask what is making you think you aren't giving her enough?

How old is the little lady?

\howmany wet and dirty nappies is she having a day?

Hi hun, I've been doing the same; when I wake Ollie at 10:30 pm for his last feed I give a bottle as he seems to sleep for longer through the night and appears more contented (think he's just lazy as he gets tired so he doesnt have to work as hard for his food!). I'm sure your feeding your LO enough if your having plenty of wet nappies and LO is putting on weight well. :)

Lot of us doubt ourselves to start with and resort to topping up

Every time you give her a top up you are effectively telling your body that she's getting enough milk from you but she's not. When you are giving the top up your body doesnt get the signals to produce the correct amount. At this early stage it's relatively easy to sort by ditching the top ups so your body gets the correct signals from her feeding.

So long as you are getting wet and dirty nappies she is getting plenty. Your body has looked after her all on its own for 9 months....why would it stop now??

Believe in yourself hun - Youre doing a great job :hugs:

shes 11 days old, i just think shes not getting enough from me as shes ALWAYS wanting to feed during the day. she does sleep all night tho. she has lots of dirty nappies through out the day. spoke to the midwife today and she said what olviia is doing is normal for a new born, but i just dont know what to do for the best

It sounds totally normal hun. :hugs: They also have growth spurt between 10 days and 2 weeks so that will add to it.

She still has a tiny tummy so little and often is good.

Hang in there. You'll come back on here in a few short weeks and see this exact same thread being posted over and over again. We've all been where you are.

This is normal - it was my experience too. I wouldn't give a formula top up as this affected the supply of a friend. Breastfeeding works on a supply and demand basis and sometimes babies need to suck more to tell your body to produce more milk. Think of it as your baby placing an order in advance ;).

We've all been there - worrying that they're not getting enough but as long as there are plenty of wet and dirty nappies and your LO starts to put on weight, then they are getting enough.

Sometimes you just have to 'trust your tits'........sorry.

:hug::hug:

Ellis was exactly the same, I remember it well!!!! You will get there, it won't feel like it now but you will. I remeber posting s a thread along the same lines as Ellis started losing weight again but I perservered and we got there. :hugs:

Glad you posted this question as I am experiencing just the same, my LO is 16 days old and has been like this for a week.

He seems to have his days and nights mixed up (i know they don't differentiate at this age) but it seems he is definately a night owl, he is up at least every 1.5-2 hrs for a feed and feeds can last from 20mins to 1 hrs per boob. at least once daily I offer him both boobs and he spends an hour on each and still seems not to be satisfied. I am trying to express after the shorter feeds so that I can give it to him later and my body will produce more milk.

Hard going, but I live i hope that it won't last forever!

Sounds like a normal newborn hun. Your body took care of her for 9 months, and is now just as capable. It is so hard to have the confidence when you first start out, we all have the same doubts. Just trust in yourself!
