I made a comment to my husband today that I’ve been forgetting to do my retinol cream at night... imagine my surprise when he told me to discontinue using it completely, because it can cause birth defects! Is this true?! From what I’ve read online, it sounds like studies have only shown risk of that with oral retinol, which is much more potent than topical. Any ideas? I’ll be so sad if I have to stop using something that’s been helping my complexion so much...

Yes, I absolutely wouldn’t recommend using a retinol cream while pregnant. That being said, used topically it is unlikely that you have absorbed much and baby is probably OK. Ask your doctor to be sure, but I definitely wouldn’t use it anymore.
