Hi all,

I wondered what people thought about making car journeys at 31 & 34 weeks pregnant

We were thinking of going to a football match on Saturday - which is over 120 miles by car each way - did it last month and was fine, but feeling more tired and achy now! DH would be driving and we would make several stops

Secondly I've been asked to a girls weekend about 75 miles away when I'll be 34 weeks. I'd have to drive myself to and from that one.

I'm really in two minds about both of them and wonder whether it would be a good idea to go to either or not - and wondered what others thought!

Had a 30 week growth scan yesterday and everything seemed ok....

I think it sounds great! But I would map out where the closest hospitals are along the route...and maybe see if someone can ride with you to the girls weekend so you are not alone.

You should be ok of you make stops to stretch your legs and get food etc...
Just make sure your comfy (pillows etc) and drink water as much as possible to stop your feet swelling.

Xx

I'm planning to drive to visit my folks for a long weekend visit at 31 weeks and they are 100 miles away. With a couple of stops I don't think I'll have that much of an issue with it. I'll probably need one stop anyways to let my 1 year old out of the car, so I doubt it will be too much different than my usual trip. I'd go for the girls weekend if it were me, but I might be on the fence about the football game. I'd be a bit concerned about the long drive, then watching the game (how comfy are the seats?), then driving back. That might be hard all in one go. But if you really like it, it could be worth it. Good luck!

i am going away next weekend for 2weeks, so when i travel back i will be 30weeks preg, is about 4hours drive, but doing a 4hour drive then and 2hour drive further north!!

and will be travelling back north frm south when i am 34weeks, which is 6hours!!! i am moving back to have baby.

when i am away i will be sure to take my notes with me!! just incase. but fingers crossed i wont need to visit any hospitals!

i wont be driving either, bf is going to be

I live in Scotland and am travelling down to wales for a long weekend at the end of march and I will be 33weeks at that point. I will do some of the driving but also my best friend is coming with us so she can share driving with me, and we will be making plenty of stops to flex the legs and have pee stops x:thumbup:

my OH lives 80 miles away and i have to sit that journey every few days lol. its honestly so painful and uncomfortable but ive had previous back problems anyway and its a van so not very comfy
aslong as your seat reclines for the journey your a passenger i think youll be fine :)

I am debating on traveling this weekend also. My parents live 142 miles away from where I do and this would be the last trip to see them unitll after Serenity is born. The reason i may go is because there is a good chance about them not being able to come to see her born. My belly touches the steering wheel already and its really uncomfortable to for me to sit for long periods of times. Of course im problably going to stop and take breaks along the way. Oh what should I do?? I feel like ripping my hair out lol.

I was thinking this too. We are travelling to see M&FIL on sat which is 105 miles away and we'll be coming back same day - so total of 210 miles in one day. on 26th (I'll be nearly 34 weeks by then) we'll be visiting my brother who also lives around 100 miles away in the other direction and will be coming home same day. So another 200 miles. Then on 12th March (I will be 36 weeks preg) we will be travelling another 200 mile round trip in one day.

Does anyone think this is too much so close??

See im 32 and think its to close for me to travel so im debating right now :dohh:

I'm nearly 37 weeks and have done plenty of long car journeys. Havent found it a problem at all, other than needing the loo and stretching my legs a bit more often than normal xx

I just did a 5 hour car trip (10 hours round trip) at 32 weeks, it definitely got a little uncomfortable at times, and we had to stop a lot so I could pee, but other than that, it was fine!

Yea, I can't really get out of it - so I will be making sure I take pillows, snacks and will make sure we make a stop to break up the journey. And will be taking my notes just incase!

I did 1500km stretch twice over Christmas travelling to my parents and back + 500km x2 trip to mountains and back with no problems (only had to pee on a motorway when we got stuck in traffic for 3 hours - that was not funny!). I was 32 weeks then. but my pregnancy is not extremely hard or at risk, otherwise I would not have done it...
