I've had one miscarriage in June.

We got told today we have two options to conceive again:
- Tamoxifen
- IVF

I don't want to try any treatments just to get pregnant and miscarry again, therefore 'wasting' our treatments.

Are there any investigations into miscarriage before any treatments or procedures?

Oh and another question. . .

Tell me if I'm right. . .
ICSI is where the sperm is injected into the egg?
IVF is the same as ICSI but the sperm do the work of getting into the egg themselves?

I'm asking cos I didn't realise until now but the doctor said IVF with ICSI

Hi maaybe2010 didn't want to read and run, A clinic will usually use ICSI if their is male factors (low sperm count) but they sometimes decide that on the day depending on the sample if they think the sperm is strong enough to fertilise the eggs on their own they will just put the 2 together and let them find their own way. I just had normal IVF so don't know much about ICSI i'm afraid. I've also read that they will only start to investigate further after 3 miscarriages which is a hell of a thing to go through.
Try and look on the positine side I know you are probably sick of hearing people say that but I know so many people that miscarried theit 1st pregnancy and then went on to have healthy babies I know it's frustrating but keep baby dancing and it will happen xxxx

Thanks hun, yeah we have male factor O:)

I just don't want to waste our only chances, although we're not going straight into IVF anyway going to try the tamoxifen first O:)

I'm sorry sorry about your loss sweetie :hugs:

I wouldn't worry about wasting your chances hun, Accept anything that is offered as by the looks of things the IVF funding is not looking good so I would consider it as it may not be given on the NHS for long. The IVF also works better the younger you are so that is something else to consider, But I understand what you mean I would have loved to conceive naturally and if I thought we could I would have give it more time xxx

Good Luck hun whichever way you go xxx

Yup, you got that right about the IVF and ICSI. With IVF, the sperm is put in the petri dish with the egg and they've got to do the hard work of drilling and getting into the sperm.

ICSI is where the embryologist will inject the sperm into the egg.

That was my thoughts exactly but OH wants to try tamoxifen first. . .
Don't know how long it will sort them out getting that done.

Do you mind me asking how long it takes to actually do the IVF procedure from the moment you tell them that's what you want?

well, it takes a few weeks to take blood tests, infertility investigations, etc. Once it's all finalised, you start your injections, it'll take about 1 month to egg collection and transfer.

Thanks hun O:)

What are the investigations?
We've had three sperm samples.
Both had bloods.
Both had ultrasounds.
And I got my AF today so hopefully HSG in about 10 days.
We've had all OH's results back and my appointment is on the 28th to get all of mine back.

Can't think of any other tests we've had. . . .
