Our pediatrician recommended we get these since I BF. After reading the reviews on Amazon I'm a little hesitant. I don't want to make LO sick! She is getting formula also - about 6-8 ounces depending on how much extra I manage to pump on top of her BF about 8x daily. I'm worried about over-doing it. Anyway, I was thinking about just getting Vitamin D drops instead. Any opinions?

We have a prescription for tri drops (RX choice, I think is the brand?) since we breastfeed. It's mainly for the vitamin d since there isn't much in our milk. I think you'd be fine giving her only the vitamin d, if that would make you more comfortable. Ours is fruit flavored (or supposed to be lol) but LO isn't too fond of the flavor. I'd pop in and ask the pharmacist, he's the one who answered my questions about the drops, and sometimes I find them more helpful than the nurse in the ped office. Xx

Oh and if you're supplementing, maybe some of those nutrients are met in the formula? Just a thought, but I don't use it so I might be blowing smoke...just ignore me :dohh:

Thanks, I will see what the pharmacist says. That's what I meant by overdoing it. Even though she gets more breastmilk than formula, she must be getting some vitamin D etc. from the formula. I don't want to give too much either!

I'm exclusively breastfeeding and my lo occasionally gets a bottle if i didn't leave enough breastmilk for his sitter. I give him the drops and he loves them. He hasn't gotten sick and he's been on them for two months now. The only vitamin of concern in these drops is the vitamin A because its fat soluble and can build up to dangerous levels if given in high doses. Vitamin D is synthesized with sun exposure but with the risk of skin cancer a large percentage of the population is deficient due to covering up and using sunblock. The vitamin C well not sure about that one but i know i don't get enough so I'm sure my boy doesn't either without supplements but a lack of vitamin C can lead to scurvy. I'm not risking ricketts or scurvy...

I bought some VitD drops... it was $10 but it'll last since they only get one drop a day. I thought the Tri-Vi-Sol liquid was totally against the point of breastfeeding... it has artificial coloring and flavoring.. plus trying to get a baby to keep a full mL in their mouth? Not worth it. Now they just get a single drop every day, full dose of Vit D and done!

i was told if baby gets 2oz of formula a day they dont need the drops because they will get it from the formula.
i dont give formula, or the drops though.

Definitely check the ingredients in those... the ones they recommended for my baby in the hospital contained polysorbate 80, artificial color and artificial flavor among other gross things. I found vit D in coconut oil (nothing else) at the health food store, 400 iu per drop and just drip it on your nipple before breastfeeding.
