Trying on Dresses?

Am I right in thinking you're best wearing half decent underwear to go dress shopping?

How long before your big day did you start trying dresses?

Did you have to make appointments to try on or could you just go in?

Definitely wear good underwear. Most dresses need help to put on, so you'll most likely have the assistant in with you. If makes it easier if you're not too shy... you'll probably be minus bra half the time too.

You can go as far ahead as you want, I only had four weeks from proposal to wedding day, but friends have chosen dresses a year or more ahead, and besides, just because you're trying on doesn't mean you need to buy yet. Some dresses can take 10 weeks or more from ordering so it pays to look well ahead.

Most places prefer you to make an appointment.

Yup. Decent white pants that arent see through and cover your bum are best, along with a nice strapless bra. It can be hot work getting in and out of those dresses, so tie your hair up and take a bottle of water just in case you dont get offered a drink. Be prepared to try on lots of different styles - what you go in thinking you want isnt often the thing you end up with!

I ordered my dress in March - it takes 9 months to make, then alterations and fitting on top so I needed that year gap. However, some dresses do only take 6 months. I would say around the year mark is a sensible sort of time

ETA - to be sure you get the proper care and attention, an appointment is definately a good idea

I saw something I loved at a wedding I worked at a long time ago (I used to be a silver service waitress in a hotel) and I've not been able to get it out my head since, but I doubt I'll find anything like it.

At the moment I'm thinking strapless, sweetheart neckline, sparkle. That's it.

I'm also considering buying a seperate dress for the evening as I went to a prom in a big poofy dress once and I could not move to dance at all and ended up sat on my bum all night xx
