Hi,

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost a year. I went to a acupunturist/nutritionist right away. She has helped many women get pregnant and has a bulletin board in the office of all the baby photos, titled "our little miracles." I'm 32 and husband is 34. I didn't want to wait till we had problems. So I went to this doctor right away. She helped fix some things, but after almost a year, it wasn't enough.

So we finally went to see a fertility specialist. Turns out that it's both of us. Both our numbers a little low, not horrible. He says he believes he scored an 85%, lol. But it just makes it harder, not impossible. Our fertility doctor suggested IUI. This will help with what our issues are.

I just got an HSG test yesterday. Worst experience ever and i don't ever want to go through that again. First, after all my nerves (with reading up on women's experiences and all, the room wasn't ready and so I waited in waiting room for an extra 45 minutes. Now the nurse was great. The doctor had good personality but that's it........I felt like he man-handled me. Jabbing the speculum in there (I'm used to it going in slow and easy) and he just went for it.....the nurse saw my reaction and told him easy. The speculum hurt more than usual, the catheter pinched, and I had pressure and some mild cramping. Then he was rough all throughout. I had no pain, let's be clear. Just pressure, pinching, cramping. However, after he put everything in, he grabbed the sheet I was on and slid me down the bed......so fast, without warning, not easy at all with all that stuff inside me. Made me put my legs a certain way. Was not easy with the bulb/fluid thing. It was tugging on me. Then afterwards, the nurse and the doctor left the room to get the image, and left me there laying on the bed, with the monitor thing above me, legs spread wide open (trembling), and with everything still in....."we'll be back in 2 minutes, just getting the image." Just left me there like that. Then once they came back, he pulled everything out (again hard, fast and not easy)...hurt coming out as well.

After all the poking and prodding I've been getting with these tests, I've never come home crying. I cried alot after that. My husband unfortantely couldn't come with me, so he was trying to understand what happened and if the doctor did something wrong. He was extremely concerned about my reaction and asked several times if he needed to go after the doctor. Now....maybe my reaction was just heightened by my PTSD coming back....I have been assaulted in the past (before I met my husband). I'm not sure if this was why my reaction but the doctor shouldn't have treated me like that anyway......

But anyways, I did have some cramping and bleeding afterwards, but that only lasted a day. However, today (day after HSG test), I have right rib pain. Hurts when I breathe in deep and when I move. I called the nurse at my fertility clinic, and they said it's not likely a symptom from the HSG. But I've read on some other forums, that some women (granted not many) have had this exact same pain (right rib pain) after their HSG test.

Has anyone else experienced this right rib pain? What did you do about it? How long did it take to go away?

So after my follow up visit. It turns out that it was "referred pain." She said it's no uncommon. Alot of women report pain in the ribs or shoulder after the HSG test. Wish they told me that over the phone, when I called about it. But at least I know that I'm not crazy or alone in the matter.

The pain (or referred pain) only lasted 1 1/2 days.
