So lately i've been super depressed:cry: Hubby and I have been TTC since january and nothing. At first we thought it was due to the hormones from the nuva ring, but then we found out that my thyroids were unbalanced once again. Sad to say that deep down inside I knew they were never balanced.

My hubby is in the military and we are stationed overseas, so the medical service we get is pretty crappy. And before I got here i was already on synthroid, since i was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. But when I got here I had ran out of pills and refills, thinking that the military docs would just go ahead and allow me to see an endo i went ahead and made an appt, WRONG. They did a blood test to check my hormones and decided that the hormone levels were withing normal range, this was Nov 2010. So since then i've been with out medicine, Jan 2011 we decided to try for our second baby. But nothing happened. Instead my menstrual came twice in Jan. then for the first 3 days of every month up until april, i was 2 weeks late, hoping that this was the right moment i took a test, NEGATIVE:brat: i was pissed, went to the docs had them do the blood work again, this time the doc called me and urge me to immediately pick up my medicine from the pharmacy, he even made an appt for me to get an ultra sound. It was that bad, I havent see the doctor, hopefully i see him tomorrow.

Well ever since Mid April I've been on Synthroid 0.075MG, and this month May 2011 I was 2 weeks late AGAIN. NOw i'm spotting every now and then since this morning with extreme pain. Dont know if to think its just my menstrual or a miscarriage, or my thyroids tripping. What i do want to know is how long does it take for me to get pregnant while on synthroid? Is there any hope? Should i just give up?](*,)

Sorry to hear about the problems.

I wouldn't say give up, but I would say try to calm down a bit.

When you see the Dr, be clear about your concerns. Tell them that you're TTC and you're worried it may be having a problem.

I have an underactive (well almost completely inactive) thyroid, and I was told to wait until my dose to levo was stable before even trying. I had a blood test yesterday but I think it'll be about right.

It will take time for your body to adjust with the added complication of the thyroid problems. I wasn't diagnosed until after I had my LO and he was conceived 2nd month of trying. Now we're onto month 5 of no BCP and month 1 of actively trying and nothing so far. You need to try to be calm, and try to eat right, exercise and concentrate on the bits that are within your control.

Don't forget that you've only been on your dose for a month. It can take up to 3 months for your thyroid gland to completely stabilise. Take some time to yourself and see how things go.

Best of luck xx

Thank you for your reply. I do feel like i need to relax, but sometimes i get aggravated at the military docs. I've had thyroid issues since 2009 and was on medication for them since august 2009 then in nov 2010 i moved and ran out of medicine, told the doctor on base and he said i didnt need them, so i went from nov 2010 without medication all the way up to april 2009.

I believe thats what has frustrated me. the fact that it cold of been balance all along with the proper medication, but due to the mistake of a doctor I have to suffer.

I will try my best to stay calm and go back to my regular exercising routine.

Thanx again Aimee

Hi i have been diagnosed today with over active thyroid i am seeing a specialist in Aug so till then i don't know what's happening:shrug:

hey ladies.. im not TTC again yet, but i have graves disease, so im on the thyroid train too!!!

Another Graves peep here, ttc#1

Was Graves/hyper.....now Graves/hypo, post total thyroidectomy.

hi fuzzy, still need to see the consultant but have been put on a course of tablets and told to put ttc on hold for a while:cry:

so you have had ur thyroid removed? how were u afterwards?

hi fuzzy, still need to see the consultant but have been put on a course of tablets and told to put ttc on hold for a while:cry:

Big :hugs: - I was you, and was told NOT to ttc under any circumstances until they said I could :nope: ...so fairly confident I know almost exactly how you're feeling right now :flower: For me it dragged on for years, and just made me even broodier.

I'm guessing they have put you on carbimazole (neomercazole)(CBZ), which is a big NO-NO for ttc, it causes foetal abnormalities, which is why they will have told you not to ttc.
However if your levels stabilise on CBZ (give it time & fingers crossed!), you can always ask in the future to be put on Propylthiouracil (PTU) instead, PTU *is* pregnancy / bf-friendly...but CBZ is usually the first-choice drug for hyperT. I guess its more effective and possibly works quicker. ?

I asked about ttc at every endo appointment....just to keep reminding them of our wishes. But my levels wouldn't stabilise at all, so PTU was not an option for me. And then once I was on waiting list for the thyroidectomy, they said that if I got preggers they'd have to bump me off the surgery waiting list, and postpone the op...and at that point I was desperate to get my thyroid removed, as it was making all aspects of my life complete hell.

so you have had ur thyroid removed? how were u afterwards?

A million dollars, seriously! Wish I'd had it done years ago and not pussy-footed around, waiting & hoping that my thyroid would cop on to itself.
Within 3 months of the op my levels were spot on, and I was feeling great, for the first time in years. And 9 months later (after 3 consecutive 'good' blood test results) I got the green light to TTC...finally!

Initially had the option of TT or RAI, and chose TT because of our intentions to ttc as soon as we could....but then when my goitre started compressing my windpipe, and my TED got worse, the choice was taken from me, and TT was the only option. In the end, because the windpipe compression got so bad (normal windpipe diameter 22-25mm - mine at time of TT 8mm), my TT was brought forward by 6 months.

We're mostly NTNP right now, although I did splash out on a CBFM to give us a helping hand (does that still count as NTNP? Hmm? Perhaps not!), I'm also temping, so I guess actually we're way beyond NTNP, but having to be a little fiendish so as not to put performance pressure on himself...also my GP has said that given my thyroid history and my age (35+) to only ttc for 6 months instead of the more normal 12, before coming back to her for more tests, if no bfp.

Best of luck with everything, and hopefully a short-term tickle from the CBZ is all you will need to kick your thyroid gland's butt and get it to cop onto itself! :hugs:
