So Amy is over 5 months now and suffers pretty bad from reflux. I really wanted to wait until 6 months to wean, but have been advised to try a bit earlier to see if it helps with the reflux. So she hated baby rice, but will take a drop of banana porridge in the mornings, has been doing so from wed/thurs. My question is how long do I wait to introduce another meal? xx

Hiya.

I have no experience of reflux so cant advise in that way.

What I did was slowly started increasing the portion size she was having til she was eating about 50g at breakfast.

Then I introduced a second meal and did the same with that.

Then I introduced another - so that within about 6 weeks or so she was on 3 small meals. And I am slowly increasing the amounts. I am not always strict about 3 meals a day - sometimes she has 2 if we happen to be out and about or something.

Hope that helps:flower:

Hi hun. Early weaning is not magical for reflux. Leave a gap of 2 wks before introducing a second meal, then another 2 wks for a 3rd meal. U dont want ur LO to drop his milk feeds when u start with solids. Once she's on 3 meals at 6+ mnths it's ok if she starts dropping. She will need around 18-21 oz with her solids, but if she still wants more it's ok. Omar is also suffering frm reflux & I found that leaving a gap between solids & feeds works better than giving then close to each other xx

Thanks for replying ladies!!

Nmwb - Ihave been doing that so far, giving her a bottle first and then offering her breakfast around 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours afterwards and so far it is going well.

Can I ask should I now be offering her water as she is taking solids now? xx

They dont really need water before introducing meat. U can offer her few sips with her solids, but dont offer her water alone as it's soo runny for babies with reflux. Once ur LO's reflux is settled, u can start offering more. Omar still doesnt take too much water. He takes around 1-1.5 oz throughout the day. If she's taking enough formula & not constipated there is no need to worry much about water as formula is 70-80% water. xx
