I haven't really done any yoga this pregnancy, but was reading about what poses were allowed/not allowed. I read that "twisting from side to side" while standing up is not recommended for pregnant ladies. I suppose I understand why they wouldn't want you completely twisting behind your back, but don't get it if it's dangerous just to rock/twist your hips from side to side?? I caught myself doing it tonight at the sink! Does anybody know the reasoning behind why they say not to do this motion? I'm at a loss

I don't have the answer but I'm curious to see if any other ladies know!!! :flower:

I would like to see the answer too. I twist around to pop my back (which doesn't really work anymore. :( ) It kind of hurts and stretches all of those muscles funny, but I didn't think it would be bad for you...

I twist a bit, but not enough to cause discomfort. I'm not sure why we wouldn't be able to, other than it causing pain.

my mw said as it pulls your tummy muscles and will then give you back pain and sore muscles at the front she said only to move your waist with yourr hips as in turning all at once never just your top half. x

There is so much we can't do. I'm sure it won't hurt anything that you did it. Can't help with the resoning though.

I don't think they mean twisting your hips, they mean keeping your hips still and twisting your torso from side to side. It's an exercise which works your abdominals and obliques. I think there are a number of reasons as to why they don't recommend abdominal exercises during pregnancy, I've been told it's because the relaxin hormone can cause your muscles to act in a way that they wouldn't normally, which can result in abdominal trauma.

Sounds like a stupid guideline. I would ignore it unless it gives you pain.
