Twitter help

I won't go into too much detail because I'm not sure how BnB feels about asking for help, I know asking about competitions is against the rules. My sister is trying to spread the word about some work she is doing and needing pledges for it. I was thinking twitter is probably the best way to go about it but I have no idea about it She's got one (sort of) celeb retweeting as he is involved in the project but how do else do you spread the word and get other celebs to retweet? Or does anyone know people that are always happy to retweet and have thousands of followers?
Can you tell I'm clueless when it comes to twitter?

If you want celebs to retweet you tweet them asking to, for example:
@celeb please retweet me I'm your biggest fan

Then hopefully they will see it and retweet, but they probably get loads.

Thanks, I didn't think of local pages. I'll try that with the celebs, maybe if I pester enough a few will retweet lol.

Depending what it is Stephen Fry is always a good one for retweeting causes.
