This will be my first Christmas in the UK and I've been looking on sites for different markets and so far I've decided that I def wanna go to Birmingham, York, Leeds and maybe Bath...has anyone gone to these before? or are there any other events/markets you can recommend?

Also I really would like to see one of the choirs at York Minster or Westminster sing at Christmas time? Does anyone have any info on that too? I imagine it would be hard to get seating at both, but was just wondering how that worked!

We used to go to Leeds every year at the beginning of September with FIL's work and it is VERY busy but a good place to go!! xx

We used to go to York every year just to do our shopping (rather than a market) but now I live down South it would be a ridiculous trip!

I went to Bham "German Market" (close to the bullring) last year and will go again this year - as its local but also it was just really nice and festive and a nice evening. I got a wooden train that spelt out Callum, they also had lots of russian dolls which I collect hoping to buy one this year. It was really busy especially round the beer and food stalls. We brought OH's mom a large wooden cat for in the living room cost £25 was really nice and differnt would expect to pay about £40 + else where. They also had really funky hats, will post some pics of OH modelling them. He looks like a extra out of Harry Potter :haha::haha:

O and this was just a picture of some of the wooden toys/ xmas decorations they had 030.jpg

And they done large cookies with messages on for family such as "I miss you" "To the best husband" etc etc.

Hoping to go to Germany next year for a few days to their xmas markets, my driving instructer really recommends to go.

Thanks for replying ladies! I'm really excited because whilewe have christmas markets and fairs in canada they dont sound as festive and huge as the ones here.

The german Christmas Market in manchester is very good we go ever year! X

I'll be doing the b'ham one for the first time this year. Can't wait

we went the brum german market last year and enjoyed it. went late at night during a weekday and it was still very busy and difficult to get round some parts but not as bad as i'd imagine it to be at a weekend.
worchester have a 'traditional xmas market' every year with chestnuts, mulled wine and stuff. parking is horrible round there during that time and theres always loads of coach trips to there, but worth a visit for the experiance if not anything else.

Think B'ham market might just be a good excuse to use our new carrier

Lincoln xmas market is fab- it is on from 3rd-6th December- it is pretty big and always gets ppl in from all over europe as it is a famous one. well worth a trip

Melton Mowbray has a Victorian Christmas Market on Sunday 6th December. We go every year.

The Worcester one is ok... I live there so tend to go alot. It's nowhere near as good as the Birmingham one though and yes, parking is an absolute pig because they close alot of the roads for coach parking!

Went to York a couple of years ago as my sister lives up that way and I thought it was fab - I love York anyway though - it's a gorgeous city anyway.
