Hey all,

I am very very cautiously pregnant again after a MMC at 12 weeks in July this year. I'm planning to see the dr on wednesday when i'll be 4+2 but usually you only get to see the midwife at 8 weeks and then a scan at 12 weeks.

I think i'll be considered low risk again as i've only so far had one loss but i'm wondering if you've had more support, mw appointments, scans, betas etc after one or two miscarriages??

What have been your experiences??

Thanks and congrats on your pregnancies!!

So sorry for your loss. I can totally understand your fears. I had a mc last year and I never got chance to even see my midwife before losing the baby. Unfortunately they don't class you at risk really until you've had 3 mc which i think is a bit unfair but this time round the only reason I had an early scan is because I had slight bleeding and I told them that I had a mc before and I was worried it may be happening again.

So at 6 weeks they did a scan to check for any abnormalities and did my betas to put my mind at ease a little.

Hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy :hugs: but if you feel anything is wrong then don't hesitate to arrange a check up because you have had a mc before and they should take your fears into consideration x

Tbh, they've been crap. I've had a scan and 2 lots of beta's but I've had to kick and scream for those and this pregnancy isn't going great and I feel they should be doing more.

I've got pregnant on the post miscarriage cycle after waiting an eternity to ovulate and having a very dodgy cycle. I had spotting at 13dpo, 15/16dpo. Saw my GP a couple of days after who seemed a bit puzzled as to why I was having an appointment so early but (rather reluctantly) refered me to EPAU. It took another 4 or 5 days for EPAU to get in contact after she referred me. They said it sounded like I was probably too early to see anything (5+ at this point) and insisted I had hCG level done. hCG came back at 8231 so they arranged a scan at 5+6 where I saw 2 sacs, one measuring a little ahead with a yolk sac, the other measuring a little behind and apparently empty but too early to tell.

Day after scan (Friday) I had a bleed, that was a big red underwear changing gush which just stopped and another 3 gush events over the weekend. I called them today and they did another hCG but won't rescan until 19th, the date originally scheduled for re-scan before all the bleeding. So I'm currently stuck here, probably miscarrying the smaller and possibly endangering the larger sac and being made to wait another 8 days to find out. Been told at least 3 times today "if a miscarriage is gonna happen there's nothing you can do to stop it" which isn't a great thing to hear when you've not long had a miscarriage.

So basically.... no extra care and insensitive staff considering I've got an instantly high risk pregnancy straight after a miscarriage.

On the plus side though, the early spotting did get me under the EPAU quickly so I had a scan at 5+6 and another booked for 7+4 which is far better than waiting til 12+

ETA: congrats btw!! and sorry for such a negative reply :hugs:

I was offered a 'reassurance scan' by my GP with my daughter as I had MC before her, they won't do a reassurance scan before 7 weeks tho xx

Thanks Gizzy and thanks Celesse - so sorry you've been having such a rubbish time hon but so glad you got your BFP :)

Liamswife that's all i want, with my last pregnancy i had a private scan at 8 weeks and baby was measuring small and i knew then it might not end well. I'd love an NHS 8 week scan because i'd trust them and know i'd get the support i needed if things weren't going so well.

Hi Munchkin30,

Firstly CONGRATULATIONS!! So pleased for you, our paths have crossed on here before for sad reasons but lovely to see you pregnant again.

I unfortunately miscarried again earlier this year, so fell pregnant in April, MMC at 8 weeks (scan due to cramping to one side). Then I fell pregnant without AF inbetween beginning of July with twins but again MMC found during a reassurance scan that was offered to me at 8 weeks. I had a D&C end of August and fell pregnant 3 weeks later. I live in the Midlands too, I'll PM you where I go to hospital etc. But I've had a lot of support. I had 2 miscarriages a few years back and because of the total being 4 I guess this time I've been offered weekly scans from 7 weeks onwards, right up to 12 weeks. It's been an amazing reassurance and I've been a lot happier and less stressed this time around.

My advice is lay it on thick to your GP, they have the power to refer you to EPAU, I think I was lucky in a sense as I was sent to a Recurrent Miscarriage specialist but luckily I was already pregnant and all they've done is scan me weekly. But when I saw my GP I was genuinely in a state and she was very sympathetic and so referred me.

Congratulations again xxxxx

Oh Aleeah so many congrats and really pleased all is going well, you've really been through the mill and yes we've crossed paths a bit here. My mc was in July so i'll have been with you after your 8 week MMC. I'm not surprised you were stressed. My feeling is they won't offer me extra scans so i'll really have to push for it but we'll see. Drs appointment on wednesday i think with a few tears and looking a bit stressed!!

After mine at 12 weeks I was told when I'm pregnant again come back for an early scan,I phoned when u was 7 weeks (good point to see baby) and I had twins.

I didn't get offered a reassurance one this time but I did have early scans due to bleeding.

I had a MMC I'm my first pregnancy which was discovered at 12 weeks but they refused to give me an early scan next time. They said that as long as everything seemed to be going well there was no need, even when I pointed out that everything seemed to be going well first time but it wasn't! I even cried to the GP and midwife and they still said there's no point because I had just as much chance of having another MC as someone who's never had one so they wouldn't let me. Saying that all GPs are different so it's worth a try!!!

Sorry that's not very helpful, however if you really want an early scan there are some good private places that do them for around £60. I know it's not cheap but I will be getting one this time because I will be 12 weeks on Christmas Day and just don't want to wait until after Christmas to find out if all is ok.

Not from the UK, so no advice on that front. But I remember you from TTCAL. We lost our pregnancies around the same time. I'm happy to see you back. Congrats! Happy and healthy 9 months to you!

P.S. I know it's hard not to worry coming off of a loss. But remember the odds are in our favor. So more than likely, this pregnancy will be FINE. I had to have a lot of good happen in this pregnancy to finally start accepting that things may actually go our way this time. Hopefully the same will happen for you.

I don't recommend any scans before 7-8 weeks. Before then, it varies so much what people see, that it's better not to put yourself through it. There's so many threads on here of ladies worrying about barely seeing anything at 6 weeks that I've lost count. The majority turn out just fine, but it doesn't erase those moments where they were worried.

If you ask your GP, they SHOULD refer you EPU criteria for a reassurance scan is a MC previous to the pregnancy. I'm not entitled to one this time as I have had my daughter I between.

I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months xxx

Thanks all, it seems like it varies a lot but that's really helpful. In my last 2 pregnancies i had a private scan at 8 weeks. With my DD she was measuring bang on dates and all was fine, at 8 weeks the last one measured 6+4 and although there was a heartbeat i wasn't happy. THe private place i went to was totally unhelpful when i asked if there was a problem because of the dates (I knew from going on here!) and they just wanted my credit card so i'd like an NHS scan at 8 weeks ideally, I will do my best!

Confuzion can i ask what in your pregnancy happened to make you feel more confident because right now i can't imagine feeling anything less than terrified! The next 8 weeks looks like a lifetime xx

First thing that made me feel better (for a little while) were my blood-draw numbers. My progesterone in my last pregnancy was 13 and dropped to an 8 by my second draw. This time around my hcg was much higher (14,000 at 5 weeks!) and my progesterone was a good 26 (without any supplements). So I breathed a sigh of relief until a little while before my first scan at 8w3d. I was so scared that it was going to be like the last time and baby was gonna be small and/or have no heartbeat. Thankfully that day came around fast and baby was measuring well and with a strong hb. More than anything the fact that I've passed the point where I lost my baby. I have more symptoms. And I haven't had any cramping/pain or bleeding at all in the pregnancy. So everything so far has been reassuring.

Not to say that I never worry. It comes with the territory and I'm really looking forward to being out of first tri. But I think I'm enjoying my pregnancy a lot more now than when I first found out.
