Sorry if this doesn't make sense!

DD starts nursery in August and will be going to the Catholic school attached to that. We currently live in a 2 bed house in an area we don't really want to stay but since we can't currently afford to buy a house we are on the council list for other another council area but it could be a while. We really only have a year then after that DD will be in school and I'm wondering will we have to move her if we were to get another house or could she stay at that school? how would either work with her little brother? sorry for the long post x

Once she's in school her place is secure. However if you have another child that child would either need to go to a different school or you'd need to submit a placing request, such requests are never guaranteed.

So even with it being a faith school, moving out of the catchment area wouldn't mean she would be asked to leave and go to another school? Just leaves the issue of my son and him possibly not going to that school too. I wouldn't have them at separate schools, just don't want to have to move my daughter out of school. Our house isn't big enough to last us untill they are in high school which is actually in the area we want to live (awkward I know) so ideally the move needs to happen in the next year which is highly unlikely. grr!

My local area will remove your child's place if you move out of the area as schools are so oversubscribed (especially the catholic one) to stop people renting for 12 months to secure a place then moving out of the area to somewhere cheaper.

Problem also is if you try to transfer at a later school year there are no places locally to move too either

The faith school will also have a set catchment area it may be slightly different to other nearby schools.

I teach in a faith school and once you are offered a place you can stay regardless of where you move to. However if you move out of catchment it would mean the younger sibling drops way down the list. Each school has their own admissions policy though so it's worth checking that, some schools have siblings high up the criteria but others lower down

Admissions usually have priority criteria and a sibling at the school can give higher priority. For example my daughter didn't get into our preferred school as it's over subscribed, but if she did her sister would pretty much get in as siblings are prioritised second (1-looked After Children,2- sibling, 3-church attendance,4- distance)

Also just because your child is in the nursery doesn't mean you automatically have a place at the primary school you will have to apply regardless of where you live, you'd also have to apply for subsequent children regardless of your address although living closer is often in the higher criteria. X

There is only one faith school in this area so when you apply to nursery you make your school application too. She has been accepted for both. I will just have to phone and ask as really we are limited I think to finding a new place by next spring then will have to remain in this area until they are in high school.
