UK vs US

I love the show Chelsea- an English reality show that airs in the US on the Style network...I understand mostly everything when they converse too

Also once when I was in England (Cambridge), the stores (shops) closed for lunch- does this still happen? That is unheard of in the US LOL I also had the best chinese ever in life while over there

I've never heard of that in the UK? Only in countries where it gets really hot in the afternoon, i lived in spain for a while and it used to drive me crazy when I went to get something from the shops at lunch and they were closed!! :dohh:

Very interesting..I couldnt believe it! Sounds like it just happened in that one area though. thanks!

We call it PE (physical education) as well.

And also, deafgirl, math used in a sentence isn't usually capitalized.

Grammar rules are confusing: https://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/capitalizing_titles.aspx https://m.grammarbook.com/other-rules/capitalization.aspx I don't understand because general math is the title course in elementary school.

let's just say the word fag has a VERY different meaning here and probably not something you would want to say in the US!

Oh I thought of another... Sorry if it's been said...
US say ladybug
UK say ladybird
:-)

Im from Cambridge UK! Havent heard of shops closing for lunch!!

also bedding really confuses me.

everyone i know has a sheet they put on their mattress then a cover they put on their duvet and pillows and that's it.

When following US sites, blogs etc I see talk of duvet, quilts, comforters, shams, throws, etc. it seems very complicated - but the beds look much nicer aferwards

Twenty years ago most shops would.close for lunch and also half day closing as well in the uk this doesn't really happen any more

Except the pharmacy down the road. Grrrr, it opens at 0830, shuts between 1200-1400 and then opens and closes at 1630. It is the most infuriating place!!

my Pharmacy also closes for lunch - so do the smaller shops around the village.

Usually 5pm... I think. Most banks open on a Saturday now but mine doesn't.

Yup my pharmacy closes for lunch too. Very very annoying cos i normally take lo in the pram at naptime. Also indoor market in our town still does half day closing :dohh:
