The nurses at my fertility clinic said I have to have a transvaginal ultrasound on day 4 of AF - which for me is still heavy. It's to check for cysts before starting clomid.

Is that normal? Uch, how embarassing! Has anyone else done this and survived it?

the best time to have scan is CD5-7. I am sure I had scans even earlier than that (my AF is 6 days), nothing to worry about, I mean it'll be quite clear that you are still in your period so you will have to clean yourself up a bit after that but other than that I did not find it an issue.

My scans are always done no later than CD3. I've even had them on CD1 before! My clinic just puts a large disposable cloth on the table to catch any drippage. I sometimes throw it away myself if there is anything on it. It's really no big deal. They do it all the time.

Yup, this has been the case for me for both of mine unfortunately through co-incidence. They get you to pull the screen round and give you some huge paper roll to cover yourself with. I put some over my trousers and underwear on the floor too. The nurse will already have put some on the bench.

After they will pull the screen round and give you more roll. Nurse also told me there were pads in a box under the bench if I needed them.

My advise is to bring some wet wipes as the paper roll isn't very nice and then roll everything inside the paper roll. There will be a clinical waste (yellow bagged for NHS) bin, put it in there or give it to the nurse.

Hope all is OK, good luck for this cycle!

Remember they see this every day. You will be embarrased but they won't, honest.

It was okay in the end :) just used tissues and nothing dripped anyway as I feared...

Phew.

Glad it went well :)

I take it there were no cysts. FIngers crossed for you!

Yup, my ultrasounds were done on CD3 too. I had the same concerns when I went in for my first CD3 ultrasound, but it wasn't as bad as thought.
