Long story short:

Took Clomid for 5 months, ovulated everytime.
Stopped Clomid last month, ovulated anyways.
Not taking this month, and waiting to see if I ovulate again on my own.
GYN said everything on my labs look fine. Husbands SA is fine.

My GYN said we could ultrasound this month if I wanted, so I opted to do that. We were going to US once I received a positive OPK, so I'm assuming she was wanting to see the follicles. I called this morning to ask about it possibly falling over a weekend, and her assistant called me back and said that the doctor feels it is expensive, and would only show infertility. She recommended a specialist, which I already have an apponitment for, to see whether they would feel if it was necessary, and to see what they would want to do with the results.

So, I guess I'm confused as to what this all mean. It would only show infertility? What!?!?!?

Well I'm stumped. Ivehad numerous scans and all they can show are follicles cysts and possibly polyps if you have a saline uterine scan. Maybe moving onto a specialist is a good idea. Good luck!

What an odd thing to say!

Ok a good ultrasound scanner, done transvaginally with a good sonographer can tell the following (depending on where you are in your cycle)

Follicle numbers and size (ie pre o follicle or antral follicles indicating ovarian reserve)
Lining thickness and suitability ie homogenous or heteregenous echo patterm ,trilaminar etc.
Post O a corpus luteum cyst can be seen to confirm ovulation.
Problems such as polyps, cysts, fibroids, shrunken ovaries *can* also be seen (but equally can be missed)
Bleeding or fluid around the ovaries or in the douglas pouch can also be visible.

I think I'd take her advice and let a specialist take a look though, she doesn't sound very confident in what she/her equipment would see.

Thanks ladies. I'm hoping that she meant, regardless of the results, the next step is to see an RE. Because hse mentioned the expense I'm assuming she is saying she wants to see what the RE recommends, and not have to do ones that she can't help me with anyways.....to just wait until I get to the RE She said she can only give me Clomid, and then beyond that goes to the RE.

I agree that you should see a specialist. It does sound like that she is saying whatever the results there is a fertility problem but an expert can give you all your options.

When the gal on the phone said "It will just show infertility", I thought, "Well no, s*&^!" You mean that's my problem? I thought I wasn't getting pregnant due to my third finger on my left hand being longer than my third finger on my right hand!! Inferility never crossed my mind!"

Maybe it is a good thing I'm moving onto the RE!! Sheesh!

I would agree with you, an RE is the best qualified person to help you deal with these issues and your questions. The standard of care you receive at your RE will be very different. I love mine, she's very proactive.
