This seems to be getting worse for me!

I usually get a couple of hrs when I first go to bed because dh will settle him if he wakes but then I really struggle.

Tonight he woke at 1.50 - changed/fed/settled takes an hr and then it took me well over an hour before I fell asleep only in time to wake up with him half hr later. Then the cycle repeats. I'm starting to get only 1-2 hrs sleep from 1am-2am onwards.

I'm always wide awake after seeing to him for an hr - exhausted with a monster headache but I can't switch off - I've tried everything and it's getting to the point I may as well stay up between feeds because I feel worse if I nod off for 30 mins....

Anyone else the same?? And I don't want to co-sleep before I get loads of comments on that!!!

Me!! Especially as he is so noisy next to me! I manage to fall asleep about half hour before he wakes again! :dohh:

I used to be like that. I think my body just knew it was going to have to get up again soon. All I could think is I'm sooo tired but i have to be up again soon. I think I eventually got to the point where I was so tired I literally would pass out after feeding. My body finally gave in. Since my body has learned it needs to sleep I fall asleep much better. Sorry don't have any advice. Hope someone does so you can do it an easier way than I did.

I still get like this sometimes-i think i was stressing too much over housework, etc.

I find 10 mins in the lounge (after i have put LO back down) with a cup of choclate, etc and a book seems to help:thumbup: Can't put the TV on otherwise i would watch something.

My LO is so noisy and the snorting, hiccupping, gurgling and gagging from his reflux doesn't help! Tried some White noise last night and he stopped making noises and drifted off in just 5 minutes! :happydance: You can download or buy CDs or single tracks of white noise or I bought an iPhone app of "baby white noise" which includes heartbeat, womb sounds, car ride, fan, vaccuum, seaside as well as the bog standard white noise sound.

I put white noise on for LO and find it sends me off too! Also I make sure I gave a mug of 'sleepy' herbal tea while I'm feeding, really helps me.

I had this in the beg..two ideas if youre open to them that may work - put your LO in another room - Harry was in his room from 2 weeks so was wonders for my sleep as i didnt hear all the hiccups, sneezes , gurgles etc etc :winkwink: plus youre not waking to feed him the minute he stirs...he'll probably murmer for 20/30 mins ( or longer if youre lucky! )before he actually wakes HUNGRY meaning you'lll get that extra time to kip before you actually wake to his cries.....

& secondly - dont change him - this takes time & stirs your LO more than he needs to be stirred?? ive never change Harry in the night ever..unless he'd quite obviously done a poo, he'd be left... its usually just a really heavy nappy in the morning & because i use cotton wool & water on his bum still hes never had nappy rash yet xxxxx

Im up in the night 15/20 mins max with Harry feeding....sometime i'll be tossing & turning for half hour after as im conscious hes still awake next door..when the room goes silent, thats when i drift off i think..xxx

Good luck hon xx

i used to be the same, eventually i got to the point where i was so exhausted i'd feed her, put my head down and be unconscious until the next feed - i can now sleep quite easily through all the grumbles and groaning and i only wake to her cry

i also don't change macy unless she really needs it so i can get her feed and back down within 30mins but my OH insists on changing her and usually ends up with her awake for an hour! never had a problem with nappy rash either although i always air her bum with no nappy for a good half hour after her bath at night xxx

I know it's hard at the moment hun but it does get better. I was exactly the same when my Lo was feeding through the night. I was a walking zombie and thought i would never get a nights sleep again surviving on just 2hrs a night!!.
I'm not going to give you any advice like relax, try ans switch off e.t.c as everyone said that to me at the time and it didn't work. It sounds harsh but you just have to cope with it for the mo and it WILL get better and soon you will be getting more sleep.
Everyone used to say that to me and i didn't believe them but now I'm getting 10hrs sleep a night!!!. Try and get some sleep in the day when your Lo sleeps and forget your housework for 1 day. Good luck and i hope you get loads of sleep soon. xx

I was going to suggest trying to cut out the nappy change too. I stopped night time changing when LO stopped pooing at every feed, so around 4/5 weeks old.
My only prob now is DH keeps me awake snoring!!!!!! :growlmad:

I have to change him really - and every time I do it's at capacity!! He always has gone a lot and after a couple of hrs it bothers him and usually leaks - this morning he had a tripe leaking poo through to his sleeping bag after 2 hrs!! He's quite good after I change him and feed him he usually goes back to sleep and he's in his own room - I'm the problem and my inability to switch off. I'm physically tired but mentally really understimulated at the moment......

Hey

I realise its you, honestly i have a problem with being unable to switch off too - my brain is always going 100mph!! however only suggested these ideas as a means to making night feeds quicker so YOU dont wake up as much & possibly find it easier to drift back off no??

Do you feed him in a dark room etc etc too... again for your LO, but also for YOU, so you stay in a bit of a sleepy state??

Maybe try reading a book for 5 mins before you get back under the covers?? u may find it helps you to switch off mentally & then your eyes will get tired again??

Good luck hon... it will get easier xxx

Yes - that's ^^^ what I meant too, I'm a crap sleeper once I've been disturbed too :flower: Might not be possible for you, but is there any possibility of having LO back in your room?

For me to be able to go back to sleep (for a start DH has to stop snoring!:haha:), I literally have to hardly move. LO is in his moses basket next to my bed, I wake when he stirs, put soft light on, feed him & put him down - takes around 20mins and I don't get out of bed, don't wind & don't change him (he's 10 weeks now). Then so long as DH isn't snoring & sleep talking, I can usually go back to sleep, unless there is something really on my mind :growlmad:.

I know you mentioned your LO leaks - have you tried different nappies? I use cloth, and my night time one lasts from around 9/10pm until 7/8am, without leaks

Hope you find something that works :flower:

Me too and Im getting depressed. Daytime isnt bad its night and my hubby cant help cos he working

I'm the same LO wakes almost every hour/hour and a half. By the time I get up make a bottle, feed him, settle him, wash up and sterilise the bottle I have about half an hour to sleep  I dread the nighttime :(
