I am testing out an hcg shot I had for ivf on Monday night. Please read on even if you don't know anything about ivf because all poas addicts will know the answer to my question!!

After 5 days I have quite a weak line on the net cheapie (although line was fairly rubbish even when I wld have had an hcg level of about 5000!!!).

Question is this. As soon as I get a neg from the net cheapie 10unit, will I also get a neg on frer at the same time, or wld it be sooner or later? Which test is more sensitive IN PRACTICE. I want to use frer for my pg test, so I've got to use it to confirm hcg shot gone to be absolutely sure that I don't get a false bfp when it's time to test. But I don't want to waste one of my frers by using it to test the shot has gone as soon as net test says it is all clear, if the frer is more sensitive that the cheapie so wld result in a wasted frer test and a false bfp.

If it doesn't make sense tell me and I'll try to explain again!

Thank you all.

Hiya there,

In this pregnancy I started POAS at about 5dpo with internet cheapies & I could always swear I was seeing a line, but it wasnt obvious as such. It could almost be imaginary. The line however wasnt getting darker, so I disregarded it. I put it down to an evap, a very faint one at that.

At 9dpo I got a very faint but obvious line on a FRER test, however the internet cheapie still wasnt showing up anything - infact the internet cheapie didnt give me a proper BFP until around 14dpo which confused me because I thought they were supposed to be the most sensitive.

I have read mixed reports about internet cheapies, and after my experience there is no way they can all be as sensitive as what the claim to be. I think they do serve a purpose but I dont think they can be reliable in the early days, having said that, what test is reliable in the early days as some people dont get their BFP until around the time their period would be due. I wouldnt test just yet though, as even with a FRER its too early to test. Keep using the internet cheapies to see if you keep getting the weak line as I did, and perhaps test with the FRER mid week?

Wishing you lots and lots of luck, I hope your IVF is successful.

Xx

Thank you sparkley. I'm not testing to see if I'm pg yet, it;s like the opposite, I'm testing to check that the pregnancy hormones (the hcg injection I had) have gone.

So you think once the net test goes neg I sld maybe delay a day before using the frer to get a neg? There's defo still a line on the internet one today, but it might be gone by tomorrow morning as my opk has gone neg today as well.

i got some from home health website, my sister has used them this week. she got her bfp clearly on the cheapie tests i gave her 2 days before first response gave a clear positive.

Ah I see, I didnt realise that you will have pregnancy hormones in you anyway due to the IVF. I would perhaps not test for a few more days, because there could be a cross over with hormones and a line could indicate either you still have the hormone in you, or you are indeed pregnant? I can only imagine how hard it is though. How long does it normally take for the pregnancy hormones from the HCG to go down?

That sounds right to me. I agree that while Ic's are supposed to be super sensitive, but in practice I'm sure a FRER has a stronger line when testing.

All the best!

My guess would be that even if the line has gone on a cheapy, that it may still be there on a FRER. I didn't get a BFP but very clear on all others! I didn't have IVF but had HCG shot during follicle tracking and clomid. I really would wait till 14 DPI as I know a few who got false BFP at 11 days! Good luck xx

ahhh yes - am now 9.5 days post trigger and have got a neg on the 10 unit ic, and frer still has the faintest of lines. What a nuisance!! I prefer to only use frer but it's obviously too sensitive to use for early testing after an hcg injection I think. Must be great for early testing normally though. I read on the net that it measures from 6 units!!!

Just an update from me (don;t know how to change thread title) - am now 11 days post trigger and 9.5 days post ovulation and (still?) getting faint bfp on internet cheapies. Am waiting to need to go again so I can try another frer!!

Ooohhh, am starting to wonder if this could be it!!!
11.5 days post trigger shot and 9.5 days post ovulation and I have a slightly darker line on the cheapie with second mu.

good luck, a line that is finally getting darker is great, keep us updated. fx

Oh good luck chick keep us all posted fingers and legs crossed for you! xxx
