Hi Hun I'm a sonographer. This is a really common finding (in one sex in particular). They will check to make sure it resolves. It often resolves by 32 weeks. If not they will scan baby after it's born. Only a small percentage remain like this and need surgery but that is usually the cases with a higher degree of dilatation. Yours is minimal.
I'm sure it will be fine

Thank you so much for replying. You have made me feel so much better. I did read it was more common in boys but my baby is a little girl. One thing I got confused on is that the tech said they like to see them below 4. But when I asked if one was dilated or both was she said both were. Then the dr told me that one was 3.4 and the other was 4.3. So are they both borderline dilated? Also the doctor said that this isn't something that gets worse that it either stays around the same or corrects itself. Have you seen them get worse? Thank you so much for responding. You have really eased my mine. Thank you thank you thank you
No problems lovely!! The side which is 3.4 is normal. The side which is 4.3 is minimal and is highly likely to resolve. Usually the ones which are 7mm or more tend to stick around but I have seen a lot of these cases resolve too. I doubt yours will get worse as it is so minimal, but I will never say never. Rest assured though that I wouldn't go running to tell an OB about your findings if I did your scan.
Hope that eases your mind xx
I hope you are still on here to reply to my post. As you can see I had my anatomy scan when I was 18 1/2 weeks and they said my baby had dilated ureters. Well I haven't stressed over it too much. Yesterday they had me come back and I was 28 weeks and 3 days. I had a different doctor that really scared me. She told me she didn't know why they had me come back before 30 weeks so she made me another apt which will be in 3 weeks. I will be 31 weeks and 3 days. My baby girl's ureters were still dilated. One was 8 and the other was 9. She said by 30 weeks they like to see under 7. She told me it could be nothing but it could be a marker for downs syndrome. She hadn't even looked at my chart. She then asked if I had the screening done. The tech was like yes she had it done and it came back negative. She said that it might not be downs syndrome then. Now I am really worried that since its a marker for downs that my little girl might have downs. The tech said he didn't see the dilation going away by 31 weeks either. The also found something on the umbilical cord that she said was like a varicose vein. She said that is something that has to be kept a look on to make sure blood is flowing right. They said my baby was doing well and weighed 3 pounds. The dr called the dilated ureters pyelectasis. When I left the tech said to me please don't let all this worry you, I see pyelectasis almost everyday. I know I had a negative test for the screening but Im scared maybe it was wrong.
Hi hunni! Gees that dr sounds like a dick! He's scaring the hell out of you for no reason. You had a low risk screening for downs and the dilated ureters (pyelectasis) is so common. It should be below 6-7mm at this stage but again, it's common for it to stay up a bit. See what it's like in 3 weeks. If it's still dilated, bubs will have a scan once she is born.
Interestingly, I had this when I was a baby. I did suffer UTIs as a baby for the first few months of my life, but it settled.
If you have no other soft signs for downs, I don't know why he would mention downs (the cord issue is not a soft marker). True, that a low risk could be a false negative, but so could anyone's low risk be a false negative.
Not sure exactly what they saw with the cord, but if they explained it as a varicose vein, then they will monitor you a little closer, but it's not usually an issue.
To be honest, as sonographers we are taught not to contradict the specialists, so if this tech felt that she needed to tell you not to worry, then she probably thought the dr was being a dick too.
Let me know how your scan goes in a few weeks!
