Trystan is having taking the similac adance early shield ...but i think it's giving him a lots of gas...i am considering using https://similac.com/baby-formula/similac-sensitive this one now...

anyone using it ?

Hey Hon,

When Jack Jack was having lots of belly problems, the nurse told us to try that if nothing else worked. That formula is lactose free and soy free and should help. However it does not have quite as many nutrients so it is not as good for the baby.

We ended up using Enfamil (https://graphics.samsclub.com/images/products/0030087136543_LG.jpg) and although he still as a little tummy trouble it is nothing compared to what it was on Similac.

Good luck and let me know if you try it. :hugs:

Is the Sensitive the new name for Lactose Free? It's the same color as that one and I don't see it on the list. If so we had to use that for Landon, we started him on regular Similac Advance but he was getting constipated and it was upsetting his stomach so we switched to Similac Lactose free for about 6mo and it really helped him. I think someone said they changed the name to Similac Sensitive now. I used Enfamil with Casen when he went on it and personally I preferred it over Similac

I eventually changed Jasmine to Enfamil with low iron which seemed to help with more then one problem. If I ff the next baby I will use is again. Too much iron in unatural and is generally what causes constipation and gas.

Not sure if similac has something similiar?

enfamil has gentlease and it's just as good as the regular stuff. it's just broken down more than the regular is. we went through 4 different types till we ended up on the stuff that costed 27.00 for a small can! thank God for wic!

after BF'ing didn't work with our DD we started her on Similac Advance Early Shield and she had a huge sensitivity to it (diarrhea galore!) so we ended up switching her to Similac Sensitive and she has been on that since she was a month old. It's lactose-free but still milk based so better than going straight to soy if you don't have to. She's been doing great on it ever since!

I had the best luck with enfamil gentlease when she was young. By the time she was about 6 months, I switched her to Enfamil with iron, all was well.

it seems similac advance shield is not very popular... i am using this with my LO right now, as i was given a free bottle of it at the hospital and i figured it was good. he seems to like it but then he also seems to be crying more lately... maybe he is gassy and maybe this is the reason. glad i read this.

Elle was on Similac Advance Early Shield for the first week because that's what the hospital gave us. She had a lot of gas as well, but not painful gas. We switched to Enfamil Lipil Premium (they phased out regular enfamil lipil). The Premium made my LO so so so so gassy with horrible gas pains and really running poos. She cried when she would eat and always tried to toot while eating. I think the Premium has the same stuff as Activia yoguart - I don't know if that is healthy for a babys developing digestive system. Anyway, after about a month of giving my LO pain with enfamil, we switched back to the Early Shield and she didn't like that anymore. So we looked into sensitive formaula. We wanted to try the gentlease, but it doesn't come in ready made, so we went with Similac Sensitive. (I lack mixing skills and the ready made stuff is so much easier and consumes less time to make up bottoles for daycare).

It's been great. Elle loves it and has been on it since Thanksgiving.

Oh, and similac sensitve comes in the travel size bottles - 8oncers. Very useful when your out and about.

i really want to try the similac sensitive... how long should i wait before switching LO over though? i just got that can of similac and my mom said you can't just be switching them all the time... lol

i switched Trystan right away...and he feel much better now...definally less gas with the sensitive similac then the early shield one...also with the early shield he had a a lot of diareha ...and i think he had some colic with it ..now with sensitive his stool are harder and no more colic:)

i went ahead and switched mine also, i just bought a new can yesterday and we've already almost gone through 3/4 of it lol. but even in one day he seems so much happier and more settled. definitely less spit up and he doesn't seem as uncomfortable... i'm so glad i switched lol

We had such trouble with Similac--that's what the hospital gave our little one because she was SO hungry and my milk hadn't come down yet and after 6 weeks of breastfeeding, we went back to Similac...and seriously, it was the worst for her (and for us!). She had very painful gas and was constipated, to boot. Poor little thing--we got no sleep, and she was in such a miserable state. I ended up on Nestle Good Start. I asked a lot of mom's and all of them recommended I try the Good Start, based on personal experience, or from a sil or sis or something.

It was like night and day--and I never bothered looking for anything else because she was just so happy (and so were mom and pop!)

im using this one, Sapphira has pretty bad gas with it and is also constipated at the moment, seems a lot of people have these probs then so i think i will switch too!

With the Similac Sensitive is it a thicker formula - if I decide to try this one will I need to use different nipples? I thought that is what someone told me a while back (before I was pregnant- so wasn't really paying too much attention at the time)

Megan is on regular Similac and has issues with gas & constipation but the issue I am concerned with is more her spitting up all the time. Wondering if a switch would help with this.

I have a sample of Similac Sensitive & of Enfamil - which one do you think I should try???

when i switched to similac sensitive from similac advance, i didn't have any problems with the nipples. the only big difference i notice is that it's more bubbly in the bottle when i shake it up to mix it... but he can still get it out of the same nipples just fine

I bet the RS version is the one that you have to change nipples for - after reading from the wedsite (thanks miel!). It contains rice starch so would probably be thicker. I'll have to try it out.... thanks girls!

Exact same thing with my daughter. I will be starting my babies off with Good Start again right from the beginning. My daughter had colic very badly due to acid reflux and the Good Start was the only one that wouldn't make it worse and that she could drink it all. (and it didn't smell when she spit up).

i have noticed that smell with the spit up... what does that mean? it's kind of a sour milky smell
