Using a bottle teat as a nipple shield

Just wondered if anyone had heard anything about this?

It used to be recommended a long time ago (25+) years, but I've never heard anyone recommend it in recent times.

Does anyone know why? Is there a problem with it?

I guess because of the possibility of nipple confusion Same reason nipple shields should be a last resort too I guess.
