We are just making the switch from breastmilk to formula and it's been a learning curve, so forgive me if this is a sorta dumb question, but what's the best way to feed those pre-prepared formula cartons when you are out and about?

My inclination is just to bring a sterilised bottle with me and just pour it in when we are ready to feed and warm it by soaking it in some warm water. Is this the right way? Can I just carry a sterilised bottle around in my changing bag for a few hours and have it stay sterile? Or is it more complicated than this?

Hi MindUtopia

I've read that my Tommee Tippee bottles are good for 12 hours once the steriliser is open (when you open up the steriliser you need to put the bottles together straight away if I understand correctly).

The ready made cartons can be used at room temperature (well, the Cow & Gate ones I use can be) if your baby is happy with that or put your bottle in hot water to warm it up.

Cow & Gate also do the pre made little bottles which are 90ml. They are more expensive but I always carry two bottles with me as a back up in case I'm out longer than planned.

Exactly this.

My LO won't drink them at room temp but we have a TT flask which is great on the go.

Great! Thank you! We are meeting friends for coffee today, so I wanted to have a plan. I've ordered some powder dispensers and a thermos to carry hot water, so I could make up a bottle when we are out, but they haven't arrived yet. This is super helpful though.

yup, we just pour into a sterile bottle and heat in a flask or boiling water from a cafe

Yep I always use them they are so handy and then just heat them up in a Cafe or something :D

I always measured out how much I needed before leaving and popped it in a cool bag with ice packs and then warmed a required to save wasting any of the carton. xx

I sterilse the bottles in the morning, and then add slightly cooled boiled water. I just add powder as I need to.

When we go out, we just heat the water and put in a tomme tippee insulating black case thingy, I put the powder in a seperate pot. This is what works for us, but we always have a carton to hand, just incase
