Vaginal scan? Advice needed.

Hi all I am booked in for an internal us on wednesday because I have been having cramps, am quite scared as this is my first baby, they just want to make sure its in the right place. Can anybody tell me what to expect? And also has anybody had slight cramps this early and think that it is normal? I am 5 wks and 5 days. Thanx in advance xx

I had a Vaginal scan.. It was very clear, which was nice, I didnt really notice it, once it was looking around, as I was busy being emotional about the screen! I had to take my trousers off behind a screen, and then had to sit on the bed, had a towel over me, then the person came back, told me to lay down, still have the towel over me the whole time.. It really wasnt as bad a s I thought it was going to be... So relax!!!

try not to worry, i know its easier said than done, but try to relax. its not painful, and they just insert the probe, look at things from inside, measure your little bean and make sure all is well. ive had 3 and they really arent bad. your little baby will be so tiny itll look like a little jelly bean GL!

I had one at 5 weeks and it was like a vibrator with lube on it, doesn't hurt at all. Xx

Hi, I already answered you under the other thread, so check there, too, because you have a few responses. But yes, cramping early in pregnancy is common. I had them around the same time. It felt just like menstrual cramps. As long as you are not having bleeding, everything should be fine. The cramping won't last too many more weeks. Wait until the nausea kicks in!

depends on the sonographer but provided everything is ok then you should get pics

Hi vicky,
I had an internal scan last week for lower abdominal cramping. I was 5 weeks 4 days. Was sooooo nervous & scared. Thankfully it went fine and there were no problems. It definitely doesnt hurt at all. I got to see it all on screen. Theres wasnt very much to see so early on though. I didnt get a pic, was just so relieved to be told everything was as it should be, I didnt think to ask for one
Try not to worry, it'll be fine !!

You wont see much on an early internal scan (I had one) but you should see something and they might give you a copy of the picture depending on what they can see. It doesn't hurt, they do use lube on the probe (which is quite thin anyway) so just try to relax and it should be just fine.

Wooooo I hope so, didn't think it wud b the same as a normal ultrasound scan, but mayb that's me being daft with my baby brain lol xx

I also had a TV scan - done at 13 weeks because a cyst was seen at my 12 week scan.
I was petrified that it would somehow endanger the baby, but the staff at the unit were amazing. The doctor was very gentle, the 2 nurses were very softly spoken and encouraging, and my husband got to sit in with me.

The key really is to relax and unclench those buttock muscles. I found that looking away from the screen, closing my eyes and telling myself to stay calm and breath deep helped a lot. Once I could feel myself unclenching, I then watched the screen.

Mine took a while because they couldn't find the cyst, and the longer it went on the more nervous I got - but again, I just closed my eyes and turned away when I felt myself getting tighter, and this helped with the VERY slight discomfort (which I have to add only came from me getting nervous and the fact they were in there a while)

You really shouldn't let yourself get too nervous about it, but I do appreciate this is easier said than done.

I had an internal scan as well due to bad cramping. THey're really nothing to worry about and they don't hurt. Just dont be alarmed if you cant see much cos 5 weeks is quite early. I could only see the sac when I was 5 wks but I'd had blood tests done to make sure my hormones were rising which they were so I was told that everything should be going well really and to pop back for another scan when I'm 7 weeks and they'll see more which is in 2 days time.

They didn't even do a blood test on me just took a sample of urine but I am taking this as a good thing coz as I said to my mum if they had any concerns at this point they wud have taken bloods to check my levels but the doc said after he had examined me he wud decide if I needed bloods doing and a scan but he just said they wud do the scan just to make sure baby was in right place, he obviously didn't think there was need to do bloods xx

I've been having cramps since before I found out and am also at the 5 week point. Af-like cramps are completely normal in early pregnancy and are usually just a sign that everything is growing as it should. It took me awhile to find all of that out but loads of ladies seem to have them. I had an internal scan today! Actually, I've had loads even before the bfp because I had a lap and took clomid. It's fine! You'll feel a bit of stretching as they put the probe in, but that only lasts 2-3 seconds and then you can't even feel it.

You will be fine!

Thats ok then hun, they only took my bloods cos they couldn't see a 6wk old fetus in there but I was told I was prob early which I must have been cos my levels were rocketing and my periods have always been late and irregular Good luck anyway

I had a scan at 5+ 5 due to cramping, the sonographer was gentle, I got a pic and they saw a yolk and sac but no h/b, so I had to return 9 days later..... Now at 7 weeks there is a little h/b xxx
