Vaginismus and childbirth = problem! :S (long post)

hey there. Thanks for posting your story. I just wanted to ask why a C-section may not be possible for you? Sure this might be the best option for you and would allow you to enjoy the last stretch of your pregnancy without the anguish of having to think about a vaginal delivery?

I've heard of this and I really feel for you, It must be so horrible!
But, I think you should be fine, hopefully your body will co-operate when it comes to it!
Although I wouldn't rule out c-section, it looks like it might be a very welcome option for you!
Also, don't be embarrassed about posting on here (have you seen some of the things others write ha!)

I spoke to the consultant at my hospital about it and they are VERY reluctant to give elective c-sections unless medically necessary (they don't view vaginismus as a medical necessity :( ).

I am trying not to think about it though I know the birth is getting nearer

xx

Aw, I'm so sorry. Its hard not to, but try not to dread birth!

Like I said, my advice is don't do any unnecessary cervical checks. And I would recommend an epidural, you wont feel as much and hopefully will help you relax more. If you're relaxed things should go easier.
Also, trust your body. Our bodies were designed to do amazing things!

Just :hugs:

Sorry to hear they aren't taking it as seriously as they should.
When is your due date?

I actually haven't told ANYONE that I had not gone for a pap in 10 years..... I was assaulted when I was 17 and had lots of pain (still get random pains- muscle memory)
My blood pressure was through the roof due to how scared I was over it. I don't suffer from this condition but from years of abuse/ trauma I have a very hard time with things in that area.
Have u considered an epidural? My gf - also had trauma - ended up having to get one and she said it was the best decision she ever made. (obviously this is if a c-section isn't possible)

Sorry to hear you still suffer from pains down there after you suffered trauma and abuse.

My due date is in 4 weeks (14th August). I have spoken to my MW about an epidural and she has put in my notes I am to get an early epidural which is something. I just need to hope I don;t have too fast a labour and manage to get it

Glad to hear that they've at least given you that option. It should help a LOT!

Plus if baby is breach (not sure if u know if baby is or not....) they have to do one....
Good luck! You sound like a trooper and I think you'll handle it just fine - this is your baby u get to meet :)
If you're able to - once baby is born, give an update? :hugs:

My sister in law had this problem as well for years, but she did physical therapy and it did wonders for her! She ended up doing alot of kegel exercises. You should research kegels and even talk to your midwife about it and start practicing. When you strengthen those muscles you learn better to control them, and when you can control them properly you'll be able to relax those muscle groups properly as well.
Also, you know you have the right to say no to any vaginal exams... I'm 19 weeks and have not had any. My midwife has been perfectly ok with this. I'm with the same partner for 2 years now and have had my STD screening already, theres no reason for them to keep poking and prodding down there when your pregnancy is progressing normally.
You can also request not to have too many vaginal exams during your labor to check for dilation, there are other ways to determine how your labour is progressing, a midwife will be more open to this so you should definitely discuss it with your midwife!
