Varicoceles - has anyone had a BFP with a varicocele before?

Hi everyone, i have a question as i am looking for some people who have had real experience with this as all the info seems to be a bit inconclusive. DH is 46 and has a very large left sided varicocele. We have just had another month of BFN, this was our last month of ttc naturally before our FS appointment on the 22nd. I am really nervous about it because from what i have read this varicocele can lead to azoospermia. Has anyone concieved or knows anything much about this. I really need some hope right now. We have only been TTC for 5 months which i know is such a short time especially compared to so many of you but our GP gave us a really low chance of concieving and referred us immediately. Its a bit of a shock to find this out as we sort of expected him to laugh at us and say come back after you have been trying for a year and then we'll talk.... I think DH's age is a factor as well. I am 31 and think everything is ok, have been regular although i have had endo in the past. Thanks, any advice would be greatly appreciated .

Did your OH GP arrange for a sperm test? i think that would be good to consider doing before your appt as the FS won't be able to say much without the results.

I have read that Varicoceles are a common cause of MI, but that it is not because you have one that you will be infertile.

My hubby had the same problem and the Dr referred him to the hospital back in 2007. He had it all sorted out and now has a small metal rod in there :S I'm not sure if it was to do with the operation but his sperm count has slowly deteriorated... we're now having to go private and plan on doing IVF in the next few weeks. Afraid that's all I can tell you but good luck

Hi hun, I don't post on here very often at the moment, but this caught my eye, as we are also TTC with a large left sided varicocele.

We did get a BFP about 15 months ago, but ironically it was a molar pregnancy, where two sperm accidentally fertilise one egg!

Nothing since, although I had a delay in getting back to TTC after the molar, so we've only been properly TTC again for 7 cycles.
We haven't taken it any further medically yet. We keep putting it off, thinking we might get lucky again, but now it's been a while, perhaps we should seek some help.

Also, we find some months the varicocele is worse than others, do you?

Gate crashing your post from 2nd tri... I still lurk over here sometimes!
My husband has a left sided varicocele. It took us 2 years to get pregnant, but all the tests came back ok. Ironically, we got pregnant after I took clomid, even though my tests were normal. So, it is possible to get pregnant with a varicocele.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I feel a bit silly posting in ltttc as obviously I am not ( yet). But I just sort of want to prepare myself mentally for what may be around the corner. We have the semen analysis on Monday, then we go back a week later for the results and plot our plan of attack. Here in aus we don't have any option for public repro assistance so it is all done privately. Means we pay through the nose for everything but there is no waiting list so we will know our fate quite soon. Dan o and tickled pink I will be interested to watch your journies and see how it all pans out for you. Damn stupid varicose vein of all things good luck !
