+ve OPK, -ve HPT, late ovulation.

Hello!

Thought Id start a thread on this because I couldnt find one on the forum (though Im sure there is one somewhere!). My last AF was 5th May 2010 and lasted 7 days. I have had a 30 day cycle since coming off the pill in January. I am now 4 days late for AF. Tested for pregnancy on 10dpo, 14dpo and 17dpo and all :BFN:

Anyway, in amongst other symptoms which were similar to those in early pregnancy-cramping, emotional, irritable, lower back pain, nausea, I also noticed saturday that I had EWCM and cramps. Curious as to what this was, I picked up an ovulation kit and tested saturday afternoon. This was negative.

I repeated the OPK sunday and today and I got a positive OPKs (the smiley face indicating ovulation). Given that I tested for pregnancy at the same time and got a :BFN: Im assuming I am ovulating very late. This is very unusual for me given that in spite of coming off the pill in January, AF has presented with some regularity (every month) since coming off pill.

Not really sure whats going on here-an effect of coming off the pill (though it was nearly six months ago), stress, or my own personal fertility profile but it sure has puzzled me! I was pretty sure (no OPK confirmation but cramps and EWCM) that I had ovulated around 21st May and timed BD to match that.

Not really looking for any answers here but going to make sure that I keep a track of this just in case anyone else is ever in a similar position. Any pearls of wisdom about similar experiences always appreciated!

Going to Dr's again tomorrow to request some bloods done. Dr has insisted that I do another urine test too although I see this as a bit pointless because if the HPT's havent picked anything up by now there is clearly nothing there.

Im sure I have read on some threads, that a positive OPK after late AF may be early pregnancy, but correct me if im wrong. The good thing is your not out until af arrives, especially how your usually regular.
The best thing is to wait for bloods at the drs.

I too read that +OPKs could mean early pregnancy because the two hormones are similar in structure.

If it helps, I also got 2 +OPKs this weekend, Sunday's darker than Saturday's, and a BFN this morning with a CB Digital. I'm trying to look for information and supposedly the CB digital is not as sensitive as some other tests, so maybe it's just too early.

What brand HPT did you use?

Hello there I used a HPT called Response which allows you to test 4/5 early. However, on closer examination of the HPT I took this morning which I took one look at and assumed negative, I have noticed a faint (but noticeable) 2nd line.

I have compared this with an earlier test I took on Friday (14dpo) and there is clearly no line there at all. I used the same brand on 14dpo as I did today. Could the HPT be detecting an LH surge associated with ovulation, or maybe its just an evap line? this is getting strange!

The HPT does not detect LH surge.

I get + opks right before AF to hun , But they can be + also if you pregnant for you !

I got 3 postive WONDFO HPT test strips the day after I O'd. 3 days later they're back to negative. I really think it might have been picking up on the LH surge. I know it seems impossible. But happened to me. I'm at 6DPO now and the test strips are all negative. I know OPK's can pick up HCG, because HCG and LH are so similar. It might not have been pick up on the HCG, it could have been picking up on protein in my urine due to UTI, but I don't think so. I think it was picking up LH surge, I think this same thing happened last month, but I didn't connect the dots. just thinking out loud here.

Hello just an update-today I got a negative OPK after 3 days of positive OPK's so Im assuming I ovulated very late (this is very unusual for me but who can predict biology!) so now Im on my second 2ww. To highlight my symptoms in my "fake" 2ww and leading up to ovulation, I had increased CM-from feeling just "wet" to EWCM, nausea, lower back pain, cramps with shooting pains down my legs, tiredness and feeling faint/dizzy.

Im not sure of my chances of conceiving after ovulating so late-am pretty sure that the egg is "old" so I am not as likely to conceive but will keep this thread updated with the outcome.

I am going on 16 days late. LMP was April 27 was due on May 27 I have a very regular 30 day cycle and just have a whole lot of cm and cramping every couple of days have been testing every couple of days with hpt and getting BFN's took a OPK last week and had an almost positive test...so confused will keep you posted too
