Very faint positive - any reason to worry (previous MC)?

Hi

I have tested this morning (after a day and a half of feeling poo and deciding that EITHER I am pregnant or there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with me....) and have the faintest of positives (FR analogue test - sortof hold the test sideways and you can see the very faint line).

Anyway, this is out first cycle TTC after a very early MC in mid-March (at five and a half weeks): so I am, perhaps unsurprisingly, nervous...

Last time (before MC) I did two pregnance tests (both FR analogue again). My first test (CD 27) was very faint also. Took another test 3 days later which was darker. Didn't bother testing after that: a positive is a positive and I had no concerns...

Now (my mind is working over-time?), I am wondering....
- firstly is a HPT line being so faint indicative of anything (i.e. low HCG levels).
- secondly, if it is, is there ANYTHING that I can do?

My last period started 20th April, but I ovulated late (LH surge - as taken with Clear Blue OV test - not detected until Sunday 10th May). So that MAY still be fairly early in testing terms...

Thanks

This is from peeonastick.com

The positive line is really faint. Is this okay?

An HPT tells you exactly one thing: your urine either has detectable pregnancy hormone in it, or it doesn't. The darkness or lightness of a line doesn't mean much. Generally speaking, a very light line can mean there is a small amount of hCG in your urine, and a very dark line can mean there is a larger amount of hCG in your urine. This is why you may get a faint positive at 10 DPO but a darker positive at 18 DPO. However, this is not always true. Tests are all different, and even tests in the same box may differ in sensitivity. Comparing light/dark lines will just drive you nuts. If you see a line in the "results" window, you're preg!

Congratulations hunny!

Thank you Noodles :happydance:

I have everything crossed!

Will make an appointment with my GP to discuss things - see whether any early monitoring/scanning is advisable.

Can anyone suggest a likely EDD from my dates?

Last period definitely started 20 April. LH surge first detected 10th May (so late ovulation). My cycles are normally 28 to 31 days long, but I think that I am still out from the MC (last cycle, first post MC, was 35 days): I am ASSUMING this cycle is 33 to 35 days long...?

Also, for fertility tickers etc, when does that mean "day one" was? If you went from my last period, this would be CD33 (or 4W and 5 days). I am assuming that maybe that needs to be adjusted for the late ovulation???

Thanks

If you go to the doctors, they will give you an EDD based on your 20 April being your last period, they'll update it at your dating scan at 10-13 weeks.

I think a faint positive is a positive, it might mean that your hormones haven't built up as quick as they had in other people. I got a negative test a couple of days before I was due on, when most people on here have got a faint line at that time. By the time I tested again I was a few days late and I got an obvious line. Point of that story is everyone's body works at slightly different speeds with these things.

Good luck x

That is fab news QTpie, so happy for you. :happydance:

Thank you very much :hugs:

I will try to get an early scan too (which I can pay for privately), but don't want to get it TOOO early (since I know that a week or so can make a difference in regards to development and heart beat etc). Have a GP appointment on Tuesday, so will discuss it with him then.

Thanks :cloud9:

Hiya,

I had exactly the same Dilema in March, i POAS every day from 12dpo and my line didnt really change in colour, went to the Dr's at 22dpo armed with a fistful of tests, and he took my bloods as he was concerned that, whilst he said lines were NOT predicatble as to the HCG, they were a indicator, and at 22DPO my hcg was 179. I had 5x lots of blood tests, and sadly the lines nor the hcg count did as it should and I MC'd.

Naturally, I'm POAS like a crazed woman this time, knowing full well that it Isnt the answer, but I cant stop myself lol days 10 11 and 12 were all pretty much the same, but its getting darker now. But you could be a late implanter, hence the faint line so dont worry just yet!

PLUS this time I used Internet cheapies, and then a Tesco test on the same day, and there was a huge difference in line colour, (Darker on the Tesco at 25mui, and lighter on teh IC at 10mui???) so I wouldnt recommend the IC's for any kinda reliability!

your Doc should be able to put your mind at rest tho:) lots of glue and dust coming your way :)

Excellent news, congrats on the pregnancy. The docs will base you on a 28 day cycle for your EDD until your dating scan.

Thank you all very much. :hugs:

I went out today and bought some more HPTs (two boxes of two First Response - this is the brand that I have been using anyway). Will keep testing every day or two until they are used. Have a GP's appointment on Tuesday and will voice my concerns (especially if line is still faint) and arrange an early scan etc.

Fingers SOOOOOO crossed that this one stays - wouldn't want to go through another MC :(

if you got a positive on May 10th that means you are only 11DPO so a faint positive is no reason to worry. You're super early!
The fact you got a BFP at all at 11DPO is great...some women dont get them until 14DPO.
