Very hungry newborn!

Sophie took 3oz of formula at 11.30, and within the hour is hungry again!!! We're feeding her again and she's almost at 5oz in the last hour... What why what?

Should I give her more if shes crying hungry? I dont want to starve her nor do I want to overfeed her?

I would say feed her when she is hungry....when baby cries for food, that's when they are actually starving.

My newborn was the same - he's settled on about 4oz roughly every 3 hours but sometimes wants more!

I just go with the flow. You can't leave a hungry baby!

Hun she's only 4 days old, it's normal and expected to feed every hour at least!

thing is though they are not hungry every time they cry. she might be wet/dirty nappy, got wind and needing a cuddle

thanks girls - yup i know i check for wind/nappy etc before food but she has her little signs! she munches hard on her fists but wont take a dummy if hungry

I'm having the same problem hun & my baba is 3 weeks. She takes 3oz & then in a couple of hours time is SCREAMING for more!! But by feeding her every 2 hrs means she's having far more than her daily allowance. It's difficult to know what to do really as you don't want them to be hungry. I'm just doing what you do-check for wind, nappy first & then just feed feed feed!!! Lol

Keep in mind there is a documented growth spurt at 3 weeks (generally at or around 21 days) and that those "daily allowances" are not blanket statements for all babies Unfortunately the back of the can does not seem to reflect cluster feeding/growth spurts and that makes a lot of parents feel they are 'overfeeding' when they are not.

she was weighed today and put on 9oz since day 5! she's 10 days old! lol!

Noel is on 4oz every 4 hours atm (started last night and the sleep was bliss!). He lost only about 3oz at his weigh in yesterday but that was breast feeding.
Edited to say he's 6 days old.
