Hi,

I was just wondering if anybody is taking Vitamin B6 supplements in 1st Tri? I started taking an extra 50mg of Vitamin B6 when TTC to try and increase my progesterone levels (in addition to the 10mg in my pre-natal vitamins). Whether or not it helped me get my BFP I don't know but i'm now scared to stop taking them just in case!

I know that they prescribe B6 for morning sickness so I am thinking it is safe to take in pregnancy.

Does anybody have any advice?

Thanks

i take it for morning sickness, and it definitely helps with my energy level too. im not sure about helping with ttc but i hope you get your BFP! :)

Hi Jocie,

I just got my bfp! Hence am petrified about stopping it just in case it is boosting my progesterone levels!

How many mg are you taking for morning sickness?

Congratulations piemistress!! Hope you have a H&H 9 months. I'm taking asda pregnancy supplements and they contain 10mg of vit b6 -it says thats 714% of your RDA. Morning sickness hasn't got me yet, I'm wondering if this is to do with the vitamins. I only took folic acid last time, and this time I feel so much better for taking the full pregnancy supplements. x x

congratulations! :)
i take 100mg once a day, and a prenatal also.
it will not hurt anything to keep taking it, and it may help you with sickness!

I emailed my dr's office about morning sickness last week. On the list of suggestions was to take B6 (10-25mg) several times a day and 25-50 mg before bed.

I have been taking 25 mg three times a day and then 50 mg before bed.

I'm taking it. There's 10mg in my vitamin, and I take two 50mg tablets a day, one in teh morning and one before bed. I have no idea if it's helping but I'm not going to stop taking it just to find out :haha:

I've been feeling pretty rough today mind you but that's because I had dinner quite early last night and was subsequently feeling a bit hungry when I went to bed. I should have got up and eaten something as I woke up in the night feeling sick and have felt crap today. Tiredness doesn't help.

Thanks for all your posts. I feel more reassured now :) When I was pregnant with DS I only took folic acid and the pregnancy was fine (and so was he). My miscarriage has made me much more paranoid though so i'm totally bricking it that something will go wrong again. Am taking a pre-natal + 50mg B6 and extra Vitamin D3 ...

You can get it in Holland and Barratt in jars of 50mg or 100mg

My advise would be that if you are already taking it (H&B 50 complex) then contuniue with it throughout pregnancy. I was quite dependent on mine through TTC and when pregnant. I was told by GP to stop taking them and just use standard folic acid and when i did i had no end of problems and as you can see by my ticker, it didnt end up too well :nope:. Ive not taken them since last preg as i thought i would give it ago solo, im doing ok so far on just pregnicare.

By no means as i trying to concern as you as you have nothing to be concerned about (were all different!) but just keep doing what your doing hun ~ all the best :hugs:

I felt that the B6 really helped me get my bfp (low progesterone, irregular cycles etc) so carried on taking the 50mg + the 10mg that is in my pregancy vits during 1st Tri. I then weaned off the 50mg and have been on 10mg since about 13weeks.

Seems to be a case of devil the do, devil you don't! When I miscarried it was about a week after i'd stopped taking all vitamins which did make me wonder (I later read you shouldn't just stop the B vits).

So am now concerned that the level of B vits I was taking in 1st tri was too much (60mg) ?? Can they do damage to the fetus? I know it's taken regularly for morning sickness but not sure at what dose?

Hi, i took b50 complex ( 50 mg b6) whilst ttc and have taken it since my bfp, i am now 13 weeks and all is going well. Had no morning sickness either so i guess it helps with that.

Ditto with me. I stopped taking them and 1 week later the baby's heart stopped, it may not be linked but it does make you wonder what would of happened if i hadnt stopped taking them.

As far as i know 50mg is what is 'allowed' during pregnancy, they say not to take the 100mg dose as its too much but what your on doesnt sound alarming. Im sure your body will get rid of waste vits anyway (kind of like Folic). But dont stop taking them now, weve both made that mistake :nope:

Yes hun, I was taking if for the same reasons and got my BFP on Tuesday. I'm going to continue taking it until 12 weeks then wean off it xx

From what i've been reading (extensively!!) 100mg seems to be the maximum 'safe' dose so hopefully I won't have done any harm by taking 60mg. For morning sickness the general advice is 3 x 25mg daily. I'm taking the Zita West vits which have much higher levels of most things in them but will be practically 40 when this baby is due and I deffo feel I need help 2nd time round!!

B6 is also touted as being good for miscarriage prevention (possibly because of it's progesterone similarities).

Here's to healthy bubs for all of us! xx
