Hello ladies, i was just wondering if anyone does any volunteering for NSPCC or companies/charities?! I am just about to have my second baby and when she is a little older I really, really want a career change even if it is just volunteering.

I am currently a secretary and love my job however i feel i need to do more in life than sit behind a desk!!!lol I really want to do something that helps other people even if its rubbish money at least i will feel as though ive done something good. I would love to work with children and those that are not as fortunate as us to have a home/family and a good quality of life.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it :flower::flower::flower::winkwink::flower:

xx

I used to Work with a a centre that organised that sort of thing, we would carry out a few interviews and provide lots of training, contact these,

https://www.nvconline.org.uk/

Where I worked we didn't take on people who had just had a baby etc, but everywhere is different. Even if there are not oppornities though them for the area you want they should still advise you and point you in the right direction.

I volunteer for HomeStart which is a fab charity helping families with children under the age of 5.

I give 2 hours a week. Its great and really rewarding. Obviously it doesnt pay but its a good way to get your foot on the ladder x

Ohhhh thank you :) i will check them all out and yes re homestart is a good one i may look into it again i did before but wasnt in the position to start. Thank u :) xx

I volunteer for my local neonatal unit's charity - choose something you feel passionatly about and I'm sure you will go far

ooooooo i am interested in doing this and didnt know how to go about it - so will watch this thread.... x

Oh wow i didn't know you could volunteer there but will definitely look into it, that would be amazing x

It's not anything to do with the nursing, it's overseeing fundraising. There is no access to the unit itself. A lot of people wouldn't find my role exciting!

Do they do volunteering in nicus where you go and just cuddle babies? They have that in the USA :)

No and I know in our unit it would never be allowed. It's so tight in most places, parents only and limited visitors so that would increase infection risk I guess
I'd find that upsetting personally

It wasn't meant to be offensive in any way. It was so while the parents rested, the babies had human touch. Many of the babies in the programs went home faster because of it.

I don't find it offensive
I guess it just doesn't work the same way here. Infection control is a massive issue here in the UK Units. Huge.

Anyway enough of derailing the thread :haha:

Oh it wasn't with the really sick babies either. I can't remember all the details. Never mind.
