Just ate a chinese that had water chestnuts in it. After eating it, I wondered if water chestnuts were ok. Now having a panic as some sites say that pregnant women should avoid.

Just scaremongering or some truth in it.

I was worried about something simillar tonight :( I had a sweet n sour sauce with pineapple in it and i've read on various sites to avoid pineapple in pregnancy :( hope someone can help us xx

Why does it say to avoid them?

I've eaten them a few times already and had no issues. Can't see what the problem would be, but I haven't looked into it!

seriously? i cant imagine why some site wud say we cant have them, ive never heard of anyone getting ill from a water chestnut! dont worry, u and baby will be totally fine!

Pineapples are ok in moderation, especially in the quantities that would be in a sweet and sour sauce. Apparently, you would have to eat about 5 whole pineapples to cause any problems. I tried it to induce labour with both my two and it didn't work.

Water chestnuts on the other hand I have no idea about.

Relax ladies. You and your babies will not get ill or suffer adverse effects from a fruit or a vegetable or even a whippy ice-cream.

The only food(s) to really TRULY avoid are shark/Marlin due to the mercury content. Unpasturised foods and dairy/deli foods in UNSANITARY countries.

In advanced countries there are so many health and safety checks on all foods that we are so unlikely to get truly ill from them. Just follow rthe same safety precautions as you do when not pregnant (cooking chicken thoroughly etc etc) xxx

Something about causing miscarriage. I am nearly 25 weeks so not sure if it would be a problem anyway or if its just a problem in the first 3 months or if it is a complete load of rubbish.

I'd say a load of rubbish love. I've been very active here for almost 3 years and heard pretty much every scare story going... and known some very OTT cautious mothers/mothers to be but never have I heard anything bad about those poor innocent water chestnuts lolol xx

Er, what? I eat Chinese food at least once a week. It's been a major craving of mine and most of it contains water chestnuts.
The other night I also ate a bowl of cut pineapple? Can't say I've ever heard of either of these things being a danger and to be completely honest I think it's bullshit and I'm pretty cautious. Lol.
