I mainly breastfeed but have started giving the odd bottle and top up of formula.

Was just reading a few threads here got me wondering about a few things, and my googling hasn't clarified the issues for me.

Can anyone tell me:

1) Does the formula have to be mixed with hot water and allowed to cool? (or can you mix with cold water then heat it a little e.g. by putting the bottle in a little tub of hot water).

2) How long can cooled, boiled water be stored for? And does it have to go in the fridge?

3) Is it okay to pre make formula and put it in the fridge or not?

Who knew formula was so complicated!
Thanks :-)

1 - i steralise, add cooled boiled water and leave on the side. Add the formula when needed and you can stand the bottle mixed up in hot water.

2 - 24hours, I Don't put any in the fridge

3 - I think you can still do this but I don't. I leave all mine on the side and add formula when needed, you then have 1-2hours to use the bottle. Isobel also takes a room temp bottle when out, which is easier than warming it.

water must be 70 degrees at least - cold water wont kill the bug in the milk.

guidlines now are make up each bottle when needed.

I mix with boiled water that has cooled for about 20 mins. It says to cool for 30 mins but I feel better the hotter it is!

From what i have been reading on various formula company websites and such. Its boil the water let it cool than make up the bottle. I wouldnt put the boiled water in the fridge but i also wouldnt leave it siting to many hours. I have a plug in ktlle that boils in minutes i dump the water everytime no matter how long its been but thats just me. As for premade there fine in the fridge upto 24 hours if your like me you dont want a fussy baby at 4am and have to wait for water to boil than cool to get a bottle. Than again if you boiled water before bed than you could just use that and reheat to each there own really whatever works for you.
