We are in a serious financial mess and falling deeper by the day!

i dont understand how if you both work and by sounds of things have really good hours/pay that your in so much trouble :/ im on my own and not living off benefits and i am managing on just maternity pay atm... mind you i havnt got a car/wedding/credit card that needs paying for... so i probs have ney idea... maybe sit down write all ur costs etc down and see what you can sacrafice?

unfortunately these days it seems the more you earn in the mid range of working class the less money you have cos of tax and the cost of living. I seem to have less money than my friends who don't have a job :(

Me and my OH have good jobs - whilst we don't earn a fortune we still earn an amount between us that should keep us comfortable....it's just not the case. Sometimes when we've calculated things we'd be better off claiming benefits but I'm lucky to have a job in this day and age and climate so wouldn't give it up plus I'd be too scared to give it up and worry I'd never get a good job again. Also I would rather those benefits go to someone in dire need

Brunette I agree with lushious09 sitting down to make a list of things you can give up or scale down on is a good idea. How about buying own brand in supermarket too for a while? We always buy Tesco Value or Asda Smartprice. Granted the meat smells a bit rank and is pumped full of water but least we're eating and saving money too lol x

We already have :) Infact I quite like SmartPrice Meat! Granted you have to drain the excess fat etc but it still tastes good :)

 have you left it in the fridge for a day or two and then cooked it though? it bloody stinks

 No...we buy it, seperate it into big enough portions for what we need and freeze it, we then just get out what we need to defrost..no waste :D

Whats your voice like hun? Can you talk shit if need be?

I know of several girlfriends of mine who do 'dirty' talk on the phone and make a stack of money for it.

I cant believe people missed this, I think talking dirty to old men is the last thing she wants to do right now.

Hun, you have recieved some brilliant advice on this thread. I really hope everything works out xx :hugs:
I woudlnt fancy doing it either but if me and my hubby were in such a mess, then to hell with pride- i'd happily spout shit down the phone to pay the bills, pregnant or otherwise lol

Hell i would do that to pay the bills. Its only a telephone! As long as you OH doesn't go nuts, and your open minded why not? :winkwink:

To the OP i really hope you get sorted, check out some homeworking opportunities, i have been browsing for pt jobs on places like working mums.co.uk mainly to keep the brain stimulated untill i do my PGCE next sept. They have call centre/sales/admin the usual stuff.

I'd give it a go, just avoid the con jobs. Good luck and have a hug xx

Your priority has to be your tax bill. If you have not got an accountant you must get 1 straight away. They really are worth their weight in gold. You will only pay tax on profits from being self employed so you need to get receipts, mileage records, public liability documents etc together and then calculate what is owing. All benefits are calculated on what your profits from last year were. If you earnt enough to owe 7 grand in tax you will not be eligible for tax credits or housing/coucil tax benefit. Do it as soon as possible because bear in mind you will also get a tax bill for this tax year. Once you know where you are you can weigh up your options. You will not be able to claim anything without this figure, tax credits for example are calculated based on your previous years taxable profits. The inland revenue will not enter into an iva but if you get your accountant to liase with them they may let you enter a payment plan, but bear in mind this will be interest bearing . Sorry I can not give more positive news but january is the latest you can put your tax return in and the sooner it's done the sooner you can see where you stand.
With any money you earn as self employed you should really put 20% of it away into a separate business account so that it's ready when you get your bill if your clients don't deduct it at source. You can also pay your nico by monthly direct debit. I know that's no help now but could start to do it ready for next aprils bill.
If your still unsure talk to your accountant, you can write their advice off as a legit business expense and hopefully it will give you peace of mind xx

Hi Hun,

Sorry to hear of your situation and I don't know if anyone has suggested this to you as I've not read all the replies but have you thought about contacting CCCS (Consumer Credit Counselling Service)?

They are a charitable organisation who will be able to give you free advice on managing your financial situation and debts, they will help you work out a budget and put forward some very practical solutions for your individual situation.

I know it seems bleak now but trust me, give them a call or go on their website and they will take a whole weight off your mind :)

Good luck hun, hugs

xxx

Thank You.

Hubby keeps telling me he has it in hand but I just can't see how?
I'll poke him about the accountant tonight because he really does need to get one, at least then we will know where we stand.

I've spoke to trading standards regarding the car and we are to speak to the garage and tell them they are in breach of their contract so hopefully we may get somewhere with them.

Good luck with the car.
My hubbie tried to do his own books for a few years but there are so many things that you can claim that they don't tell you about and it is easy to make mistakes. My hubbie made a small mistake and rather than just let us repay the amount owing they fined him several thousand on top and there is nothing you can do about it. An accountant will pay for themselves many times over. I had a go at our tax return and estimated that we owed a grand in tax and once the accountant had done it HMRC actually ended up owing us 3 thousand!! xxx

F~*king Garage!!

Sent a letter to them regarding everything Trading Standards have said and they still won't budge! :(

They now want their courtesy car back aswell!
