So Josh had started rice cereals 3 weeks ago and some fruit puree about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I started giving him some veggies.

So this is what his day looks like now:

7am : -5-6onz of formula
10am: 6-7 tea spoons of fruit puree + 2onz of formula
12:30: 5-6onz of formula
4pm: 10-12 tea spoons of rice cereals + 4onz of formula
7ishpm: 6-7 tea spoons of veggies + 4onz of formula
11pm: 4-5onz of formula

That's about 25ish onz of formula a day + some food
Is this too much or not enough? He doesn't drink as much formula as he used to since he eats 2-3 meals a day. Is this ok? When did you start giving more?

He would eat a whole jar of puree if I'd let him... He's a pig! Should I give him food until he doesn't want anymore though?

Ps: he seems to be growing and he's really chubby!

My god! Kyles going on 5 month and its a struggle to get him to take some baby rice in the morning lol xx

Im not to sure as weaning is only really suposed to be for 4 month plus so i wouldnt have a clue sorry hun! I didnt do it early so wouldnt know how much is to much  Hope someone can answer your question ;)

I started Dec on baby rice at 2 months but it was only a few spoons in the morning.
I didnt start other stuff until 3 1/2 months so I am not sure how much you should feed him.
HV did give me a telling of even for giving him rice that early.

When I first started giving Colton purees he ate the whole thing. I only gave him one a day, though. Right now he gets 1-2oz of cereal in the morning, 1/2 puree of fruit in the noon, 1/2 puree of veggies in the evening. He's abit older then josh though.
When he was getting the whole puree at once he would eat it, and then about 30min later he would have a whole bottle.
I dont know how many teaspoons equal one ounce but I'm sure he's eating good; and atleast he is getting a variety!

When you say 1/2 a puree, it's 1/2 a jar?
I think an oz is about 9-10 tea spoons.

yes, it's 1/2 a jar. The jars are like 2-2.5oz, so he gets about half of that. Sometimes he acts like he will eat more, especially the fruits, but I want him to have his veggies too.
And with the 1/2 jar, he will also eat 4-5oz of formula. Then 5-6oz bottles between meals.

The recommendation in the UK / Ireland is not to wean until 6 months - unless you have to for reasons like reflux or a liquid diet no longer sustaining baby.... do you really wean that early in Canada?

i would not have a clue as summer is still on milk only.... i was told not to give her cereals until 4 months then puree and vegs etc until 6 months :dohh:
do they suggest different where you live?

however as she is such a hungry baby i was thinking of starting to give her some baby rice in the next few days.... not sure what to do for the best these days... everything has changed since we were younger!

Jasmine was put on baby rice at about 14weeks as she was always hungry so hv tld me to give her a few spoons daily, I started her on Cereal and puddings at about 18weeks and she loves it

I personally wouldnt even consider to wean until at least 4months, unless its for the reasons like munchkin says. Can be very risky. I started weaning Oli at 5months, he just wasnt ready before. Milk should be satisfying him enough at his age-does he still seem hungey after a milk feed? if he is try giving him more, and if he still isnt satisfied, i'd try him on hungry baby formula and talk to your HV. Of course all babies are different though and you know whats best. Its unlikely he is over eating though. x

I started weaning in the 3rd month. (before i get shot, Health visitor advised that I would know when Oscar was ready)
He started with just rice - 1 teaspoon
about 3 wks later - added a little fruit puree to the rice. H then decided that he likes the rice better with puree than without

now though he has 1/2 jar of something with fruit + bottle
mid morning bottle
1/2 jar of dinner (alternating 1day veg 1 day meat) + rest of fruit from breakfast + bottle
mid afternoon bottle
1 jar rice pudding or banana custard that sort of thing + bottle
night time bottle

I will be cooking him home made stuff soon (once I get a cooker put in the new house ;))

Ive been told by my HV to continue what Im doin as Ebonii seems very happy and content she gets .....

bottle in morning 4-8oz
breakfast around 6oz bottle and baby cereal (around 4 tblsp)
early afternoon 4-8 oz bottle
lunch veg or fruit puree with some juice
dinner time normally a heinz packet (i know lazy lol) again about 4 tblsp with a few oz of milk
then bedtime 6-9oz milk

every baby is different you just have to go along with what u think ur baby needs you seem to be doin great hun xx

just found this thought id add....

Throughout weaning, continue to breastfeed your baby or give 500-600ml (1 pint) per day of infant milk (or follow-on milk from six months if you prefer). Give your baby a milk feed first thing in the morning and at bedtime, and other milk feeds during the day. The timing of these feeds will depend on what stage of weaning you have reached, but you should try to give milk feeds after meals and you should limit the amount of milk taken between meals.
From 12 months onwards, if you are bottle feeding you can start to give whole cow's milk as your baby's main drink (but not semi-skimmed or skimmed milk).
By this stage, your baby's food intake should be good so you can decrease the amount of milk given to about 350ml (12oz) per day. You should not let your child drink large volumes of milk after 1 year (i.e. more than 600ml per day) as it reduces the appetite for other foods.

Josh was taking way too much milk... Would never get enough!!! He is a very hungry baby and he's really tall/big too... So his doctor said to start him on some cereals and now I've added some fruits and sometimes some veggies.

Instead of taking 40-45 oz of milk a day, he takes 25-30oz.

Newt.. I have a couple questions.. I have been wanting to give Colton some fruit puree mixed with his cereal, but I was unsure about how to do it. Should I water teh puree down some more? I was thinking wiht the cereal in it aswell, it would be really thick, but I guess you just dont put as much cereal as you put in juice/formula. Also, is that why you only give him the 1/2 a jar of the fruit?
Also, are you on stage 2 foods? I know here, they only make dinners in stage 2/3; Colton's still on stage 1 and I have debating when to move him onto stage 2. He started eating stage 1's at about 10 weeks, so he has been on them for about two months now.
One more thing  if you ARE on stage 2.. do you still use a stage 1 fruit puree to mix with the cereal, or do you use a stage 2 for that aswell?

Sorry Jess, for interupting your thread  This is just the first time I've heard anyone say that they mix rice and a puree; which I've wanted to try for awhile.

we are using stage 1 foods.

I only give him half a jar in the morning. He was having a whole jar, but I am getting worried that he is eating too much although he would have a whole jar if I let him, I don't know if I am right or wrong but he seems satisfied,a nd it makes up his dessert for dinner .

when I make his fruit puree I make up the baby rice with formula then add about 2 or 3 teaspoons of puree. I don't dilute it but if I find it too thick I add a little more formula to the rice. I then use the remaining puree as a dessert for dinner (so he basicly has what he don't esat for breakfast as a dessert later)

I started mixing the rice and puree (that I bought in little cartons) after he tryed the puree and loved it, but I was worried about the sugar content on one whole carton so I started mixing it to flavour the rice.

I don't give him rice as often in the morning now, I give him the baby yogurt with fruit (heinz, hibb, etc) but thats down to pure lazines

Some of the ready made jars I buy, when I read the ingrediants, I found were made up of fruit and rice. So i guess it's the same thing.

;)

Oooooh. okay. So you dont mix it with just the puree. I get it now. That might be something to try. Right now I make up his cereal with juice though, so it might be kinda the same thing.
I guess we just dont have as many stage ones here as there. We only have 5 different fruits, and 5 different veggies. Thats it. No meat/dinners, or desserts or anything. :(
Thats why I'm excited to move him up to stage 2. They have meat, dessert, dinner, they even have cereals-which I'm excited about that way I dont have to make it up (haha :dohh:). They have like Rice with apples, Oatmeal with apples & pears, etc--but thats not until we get to stage 2 :(

But anyways, thanks!

I started Olivia on rusk on a evening at 10wks and that made her sleep through the night.
Then when she was 4 months i started to give her a bit of dinner (1/2 jar). I do know that they shouldnt be on 3 meals aday till they are 6months as they need there milk. A 6month old baby should still be on 21oz of milk in 24hours also one portion of meat aday.

How many weeks his he?? Maybe just give him one bigger meal aday. But his diet needs to be mainly milk.
Hope this helps.
