weaning off dummy... help!

I only would if she is genuinly hungry x

Hi Ladies.. a week and a half ago I weaned my baby off her dummy.. she was very dependant on it and loved her 'miney' as we call it.. she was waking up in the night and we were going in and plugging it in and off to sleep again..

Until one night I recorded how many times we did this.. and even though she was teething (with two teeth) Enough was Enough..

I went on youtube and came across a video of a lady called Dana Obleman who runs a company called sleep sense.. i read what she had to say about it and i did what she said.. and IT WORKED!!!!

I will post the link to you if your interested.. Now unless she's poorly she sleeps through and settles herself.. it took a few days and she was sorted.. it's one of the best things we've done so far with her..

If your getting up in the night to plug it back in you might as well spend a few more sleepless nights and wean her off it .. the likelyhood is that she will sleep a lot better afterwards.. you owe it to yourself and her..

thats my story anyway xx

how old is your baby? I would say dont replace one prop with another if they are old enough to go without night feeds and feeding ok during the day.. the trouble with replacing a nightfeed with dummy or continuing night feed is that, your getting rid of one problem with another..

Is she hungrier than usual during the day? If she is, then it could be a growth spurt and I would feed her. If shes not, and she used to sleep through then I probably wouldn't. You could use other methods such as pick up/put down, or shh pat. She WILL cry a lot at first, it won't be pain free!
But as ginab said, you are replacing one prop with another, instead of the dummy she is using the bottle. What you want is for her to use nothing, but you will have to help!

hi, yeah i thought that could be the case, she feeding normal through the day. would she still take the feed though even if she not hungry? i am only giving her 3oz through the nite and she taking it very quickly as if she is hungry! and she would defo take more if i let her. anymore advice you could give me?

if she is only 12 weeks old id say she still needs a dreamfeed (nightfeed inbetween bedtime bottle and morning bottle)

I would still feed her in the night at that age, but only once every 4 hours if she is not in a growth spurt. So if she wakes and you think she is hungry and it is more than 4 hours since her last feed then feed her. If its not more than 4 hours then try to settle her without feeding and obviously without dummy if you are weaning it.
