Ok ladies i need your honest oppinion, I'm going to take a event and wedding managment course and at the end of it I want to start my own business (I did my own wedding and loved what I created!).
Are any of you using or would use a planner to take away the stress of planning a wedding or would you rather do it yourself? and if you would use on how much would you pay??
Thanks

I personally love the idea of planning weddings and would like to see the replies to this. But personally I wouldn't pay someone to do it iykwim? xx

Aha! I'm having a wedding planner, in a roundabout sorta way! We're getting married on a cruise and it's all planned for us by an onboard wedding co-ordinator! If I hadn't be going for a cruise, I would have most certainly had a planner because I am far too impulse to reign myself in when it comes to negotiations etc!

I think there is space for wedding planners at all ends of the scale, but that in the current climate you should put consideration towards planning other types of events too (wedding anniversaries, engagement parties etc). If you have lots of family and friends you could offer to arrange a few of their events to build up a portfolio to display on a webpage or similar - not only that but you could have business cards printed to leave around the venues while your parties are taking place!

Pricewise I have no idea... but I really do wish you the best of success!

I dont think i would be using a wedding planner unless it would work out cheaper than doing it all urself...

I think if it was a really huge wedding then yes, but to be honest if you look at all the wedding websites and magazines -
what's the first thing that really sticks out? - Cutting down the guest list to save money, maximising your budget etc.

Some people might be put off if the cost of a wedding planner may have an impact on what they can actually afford guest, cake, dress - wise. I would rather do it myself if it meant I could afford more people at my reception if you know what I mean?

It makes it more personal doing it yourself because you feel more proud that you planned it, not someone else.

Sorry to be pessimistic about your choice of industry - but I did look into this myself and did vast amounts of research. It would come in handy if you were looking for within a company as mentioned above, but otherwise i.e. self-employed, it would be difficult for you to sustain growth at present. Hope this helps! and good luck!

If I had the money and I needed one I would hire one - but I can easily plan a wedding myself (I think!)
