Weird bleeding

Hi ladies, hope ur all ok?

I just wanted some advice i was taking metformin before xmas for 6 months and then stopped for a couple of months break, in that time i had 2 periods in a total of 8 months. Then 2 weeks ago i started back on it, a week into it i started bleeding, only dark brown blood and only when i wiped. That was a week ago and its still the same. My normal periods are normally very heavy and bright red blood with lots of pain. I expected if it was my period to have started by now properly, but seen as its old blood and not painful i dont think it is my period. Could it be the metformin?? Has anyone else had anything similar?? Sorry for the gory info! Xx
