I am now 18 weeks. For the first 17 weeks I had put on 6.5lb. When i got on the scales this morning, it says I have put on another 6.5lb in 3 DAYS! I haven't done anything drastic like eat my weight in food, my bump has gotten bigger in the last week but I seriously doubt 6.5lb!! Could it be extra water or what? Will have to see if the scales change as the week goes on, maybe it will go down a bit, my weight has been generally going up and down throughout the week but never this much!!

Extra fluids is likely the case.

My friend has put on 30lbs so far and she is only 15 weeks now. It makes me feel all that much better about my 15lb gain so far.

id throw the scales away & just let the midwife track your weight, or your going to start worrying about how much weight your putting on etc, just let nature take its course, remember you have something so much more precious than a weight gain in your body, x

This is why they tell you to only get weighed at your dr/mw appointments, to many woman are concerned with weight gain and it can drastically effect the actual gain because home scales are not accurate. I gained 60-65lbs with my son, and lost 43-45 lbs an hour after he was born. Alot of woman carry water weight.

OK, thanks, yes I should throw away the scales. I'm exercising nearly every day and eating (mostly) healthily. It was just a shock this morning!

girl i'm 32 weeks and i went from 140lbs to 181!! i was gaining like...9lbs a month. and Trystin is growing perfect. like he's literally right on track for my due date! i think honestly i just care alot of water weight. specially since i swell so easily. i wouldn't freak unless your MW or DR says to be concerned!

Mine is definitely water weight because it just doesn't go up up up. It's fluctuates up and down, up and down. :)

Mine is like that too, especially by the end of the week for some reason, (I go by kg normally) there's always a 0.5-1.5kg range through the week but 3kg since Thursday seemed like a big jump and out of the usual, that's why I posted. Am not worried about gaining weight when pregnant because I know I'm mostly eating right and I exercise a fair bit - walking and jogging as well as yoga. I can see and feel I have put on weight on my hips/ thighs but that is just where my body always gains weight so i accepted that was going to happen right from my BFP, but there's definitely not a extra 3kg sitting on my hips since thurs lol.

I too share the same views as you. I was going up and down +/- 1 KG in the first trimester, every 2 weeks.

In the 12th week, I jumped 50% up on my weight and then realised it was also water. :) I don't want to put on too much fat weight because it just puts unecessary risk on baby and me.

If you're putting on weight really fast, overnight, that's most likely water weight because fat takes a little more time than that to hug our hips :)
