Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Nuts! I am starving (skipped dinner again :dohh:).....Wondering what to eat? I seriously don't want to start packing on the pounds but I have the oddest craving for milk again! I haven't wanted milk since my first trimester

So I think I may raid the fridge and see what's in there....tomatoe soup maybe. It has been cool and rainy today :rain: so I am in heaven right now. Girls are asleep.....school is done for the day. I get the living room and the tv and the REMOTE  all to myself :haha: WTF do I do with all that? LOL!

Oh, and dh says I am "spreading" re: my stomache muscles. When I laugh or cough my upper abdomen is super painful. So I have to be really careful about lifting anything until those muscles stretch out. Boy, they better snap back once babes is born! :growlmad: I'm going to be a crunch-freak! :haha: I want a six-pack like Jess, so I'm realllly gonna have to work it! :) I have been putting tons of elastin lotion on and so far no stretch marks .....

I could have sworn I had posted in here earlier tonight but can't find it, so apologies in advance if this is a double post.

I'm 42 and DH is 48. We have a 13-year-old son and for the first time since he was born, both agree on TTC another child at the same time.

August was the first cycle in 19 years we didn't try to prevent; #1 was a surprise. No BFP but :sex: without those latex devices is so awesome, we've decided no matter what, no more contraception. Here's hoping the baby fairy gets me knocked up before menopause flies in on her broom!

It's great to see so many success stories. We know about the stats on advanced maternal age, risk of twins (they run in my family anyway and I would LOVE a double blessing,) blah, blah, blah. In the words of that legendary interstellar philosopher, Han Solo, "Never tell me the odds."

Our plan is to ride this out naturally and see what happens. My family doctor said that while the general rule is referring couples over 40 to specialists after six months TTC, he'll do it after two if I want. If this cycle is negative, we'll do CD3/21 and SA because if there are huge obstacles, we'd rather know up front. I am thankful that technology provides so many options, but don't see ourselves doing IVF or using donors; it's not where our hearts lead.

Sending giant showers of babydust to one and all!

Oh, btw...remember a few months ago I posted about being worried for an aquaintence of mine? She had gotten involved with a very abusive man. I spoke to his ex-wife (a friend of mine) and she told me he was very physically abusive. I remember her always haveing neck braces and casts, and bruises, etc :growlmad: Any way, this other lady that took to living with him thought he was awesome- for a while. Then she started telling me about her injuries  Neck braces made an appearance, severely bruised arms, back and spinal injuries, etc. I suggested that she should get away from him, but she would stare at the floor and tell me every relationship needed work. Anyway, I haven't seen her at her work place for a few days and inquired after her.

She was found dead in her home a few days ago with massive brain injuries. It is "assumed" that she (once again) fell down the stairs.

This sucks. :sad1: Why don't women ever listen? I used to be involved with a massive dirtbag that just loved to punch the crap out of me too but that sure as heck didn't last very long. It took me a bit to wise up and realize that I couldn't "fix him" and I got to the point where I didn't want to. Anyway, I am sad as she had a little boy about 11 years old. I will be talking to the Sherrif Office soon.

So sorry that happened...totally preventable too. There is a special ring in hell for men like that. I hope he rots in jail. I am sure you will go through a lot of emotions having to recount what you know...you can't save everybody, but maybe with your help he will never have the chance to do this to anyone else. :hugs:

Ali!:hugs: Thanks for the welcome back, I am glad to be back online the right way! :haha:

I am excited for you! All this planning of yours sounds awesome :cloud9: Wow, what do they have to do to harvest your eggs? And...when they put them back is it with intentions of one or possibly more implanting and do they actually put them in the uterus? Skip the fallopian tube altogether? Sweet! Sounds amazing, keep us updated on all the tiny details! :happydance: I can't wait! Oh, and yeah, no point in charting, but I was wondering can you chart your IVF process on FF? Gimme something to stalk? :haha:

The egg harvesting or egg retrieval (ER) is done with me sedated, and they go up through the vagina and somehow get to the ovary and pop the follicles and grab the eggs. How they get from my vagina to the ovary is unclear to me. I asked the Dr if they went up the tube, and he said no. So how do they get there? IDK. I will find out though.

The ET (embryo transfer) is just that, they take the embryos that they fertilized in the lab and insert them into the uterus and hope they implant. He said that with my age we'd be lucky to get more than 3, and that he normally transfers 2-3. If we have more than 3 I'll have to decide whether I want to make frosties, or what to do with them.

I'm on day 3 of injectibles today, I really don't feel all that different, I've been achy (head and upper back) but I think that is mostly from the anesthesia the other day.

What are you up to today? Hello :hi: to all the other ladies here :)

Sending you lots of comforting :hugs: from NY. You are one strong, brave, and determined woman. If anyone deserves a BFP it's you. I have faith all this will have the most happy ending.

Hey Ali,

I went through this when I froze my eggs before I met DH. They will sedate you and use a needle to get from the vagina to your ovaries to retrieve the eggs. You will have no idea it is happening. The last thing I remember was lying down in the procedure room with my feet in the stirrups. Next thing, I woke up in the recovery room. I needed to take the next 2 days off work to recover. I took the strong painkillers the first day, then just Tylenol the next.

I'm not sure whether this differs much when you have fertilized eggs put back in, as my eggs were just frozen afterwards.

Good luck!

TMM- welcome! I agree with you on the time frame-- even though I do not think that you are "pushing the envelope" in any way I do agree that if there is any trouble it is best to find out sooner rather than later

What methods are you using to pinpoint your ovulation timing? Do you basal body temp or chart your cyckes in any way? I found that it helped my dh and I tremendously. I am 37 and dh is 50'ish :) btw (Funny how after you have children you forget your own birthdays and how old each of you are  ...lol!)

Ali- wow, sounds very awesome, I like the way your doc says "no" but doesn't offer an answer! Typical! FirstTry's mentioning of methods makes a lot of sense though. Sounds fast to me, I can't wait! What did your doc say about improving chances of implantation? Any of the meds you are on now do they help with uterus loining? Did he say anything about the baby aspirin mehtod? Questions, questions! :dohh: lol

Hope your head and back start feeling better soon! And wouldn't it be awesome if they just got tons of eggs and got to frost some of them for you too? Too cool, I'm going to go back and record the dates you gave in your former post so I can remember what in heck is going on and when...my brain lately

Hi ladies :hi: I am feeling okay today, had a pretty miserable night at first though-- my stomache felt like it was oging to pop- literally  I am unclear if babes was just having a party or stretching or what...Anyway I feel better this morning, not quite as tight or uncomfortable anyway. Kat has been so good the last couple of nights and slept all night long! That means I am on my own as far as getting a good nights rest, the only times I have to get up is the bathroom routine. 2-3 times a night now, so she must be stepping mon my bladder :growlmad: lol!

Today I have a crazy school assignment that is due tomorrow, I am planning on a head start on it...

Thanks for your explanation.. I was trying to figure out how they got from the vagina to the ovaries.. LOL :hehe: I'm like there isn't a natural path between the 2, other than through the uterus and tubes!! But when he said he wasn't going that route I was confused. Its a needle that does it.. EEK! I guess as long as I'm fast asleep it won't be too bad. So you had to take 2 days off work? EEK! I doubt I will be able to do that, I will probably take the day of the retrieval off, maybe work from home the following day. He gave me some percocet for after my dilation surgery but I didn't need it for the pain of the surgery, I needed it for my headache! I wish they could figure out how not to give too much anesthesia to me, I always end up with a headache from it for 2-3 days afterwards. ARGH.
Thanks for the luck! I'm going to need it :)

I haven't mentioned the baby aspirin, and chose not to try it this month, as I didn't want to mess with their highly choreographed plan. I will be on progesteron supplements and estrogen patches too (from the day of egg retrieval onwards). Apparently when they aspirate the follicles to grab the eggs they end up ruining the corpus luteum, so the supplements are required! You may not want to write down my ER day and ET day as they may change. That is the estimated date for those things to occur, but if my follicles decide to grow SLOWLY like they have in the past, it may be longer. Don't forget that I typically don't ovulate until CD16, and he's hoping to do the ER on CD13. So we'll see how it all turns out. I can already feel my ovaries, they are starting to do something. What, I'm not sure, but hopefully they are starting to look like bunches of grapes! :haha:

So glad that Kat is sleeping in her own bed again, certainly helps get you a better nights sleep. Well other than babes being an acrobat, and needing to pee all night long. Sounds like loads of fun.. not! I wonder if you will end up having your baby early? Has the Dr talked to you about its growth and whether the due date is correct? I only ask because it would be cool if you were to have your baby on my b-day! :haha: its October 8th.

How is your assignment going? I was suppose to clean out the pantry today and get my house pulled back together, but instead I have played on the computer most of the day. I am trying to refinance my house, and save me some $$, but the guy that was working on it for me is such a pain in my arse, that I decided to see if I could get a better rate. Looks like I was able to do so online, but I need to wait for them to call me to tell me I was approved. So now we wait. The online quote was for 3.875 and the one I got from my broker was 4.125 for a 30 yr fixed and I'm under water on my home, so the 3.875 is awesome :) I really hope that it comes through on Tuesday and I can go tell my other guy to take a hike!

Ali- I hope they look like bunches of grapes too! :haha: That'd be awesome! What if there IS more than 2-3...will doc want to place them all or frost a few for you?

Re: the financing. I am considering that too just to save some money. Have to look into it though in depth a bit more. As far as my assignment...I have played all day too  lol! I do have my spread and title sheet tho, it's all gravy from ther, right?! I hate being one of those folks that waits til last minute. i gotta stop doing that...So my plan is to sugar up for the awesome rush and try to blast a bunch out before tomorrow! :haha: I have been lagging seriously in energy so caved in to a sugar rush today. Skittles for the first time in years! ....Seems to be working......

Ali- oh yeah, forgot to mention. Your b-day is October 8- that'd be a great date for dd to be born! Actually this is something dh and I have been a bit concerned about. When I go for walks now I get this really heavy pressure in my cervix and babes starts kicking the heck out of me down there  I am thinking that generally started happening with the other 2 dd's around 2-3 weeks before labor  Guess we'll see...wouldn't want to have her too early tho ...the 8th would be perfect :)

It's a great day to be born, especially in Canada as it usually falls on Canadian Thanksgiving. I like knowing that I was born on (or close to) a day that has such special meaning. Plus I always know I'll be surrounded with family and friends!

Sounds like you need to buckle down and get some work done! I was just like you while going to school, got all the research done, did my outline and figured out my thesis statement, then waited until the night before to actually write it. I hope your paper doesn't have to be too long! I'm sure you'll do just fine

Yes, if I can refinance I will save myself about $500 a month, which will be sorely WHEN my miracle baby arrives. Rates are really low right now, as I said, I was able to get a rate of 3.875, but there were lower rates available if you wanted to pay points. I didn't want to do that.

So I managed to hang some photos from my cruise on the wall (the cruise was 9 months ago, better late then never)! I got my kitchen cleaned up and my pantry reorganized, went through the 2 months of mail I had accumulated while I was in Canada, did my laundry and unpacked all my bags from the trip. So tomorrow I just need to go grocery shopping and make some meals for the week ahead. I'm thinking paella, and chicken curry, then I'll freeze the extras in single portions. I need to be better organized with respect to meal planning, and eat healthier!! I must say, I feel so much better now that I have my house in order again

Hey Coy and Ali! How are yall?

Coy...You need to quit with the forgetting to eat thing...I'd rather you forget to clean out your garage than forget to eat! Lol!

Ali...I know what you mean about having your house in order. It is a great feeling. I always try to get to that by Friday so I can really enjoy my weekend and relax. But, with a 15 year old that is often times not possible since he seems to ALWAYS have something that needs washing. I guess I don't mind too much. He would wash himself but I like doing stuff for him. He will be gone to college soon...

AFM...well, I am still waiting the arrival of AF. She has yet to show up. I finally got to see the newest Batman movie. BF and I went today after church. Now we are watching football. I am so glad I don't have to work tomorrow!!

Wow, it sounds like you are very organized! I have had to be organized as far as meal planning because of budget issues. Not only has our finances been slashed (common economic problem ) but our local grocer is a total SCROOGE and raises his prices. See, we heard on the news that egg prices would raise by about 15 cents in the next year. So next day I go shopping our grocer and bumped the price up per dozen by an additional 2$!! Nut-bucket, I hate this store :growlmad: Anyway I usually plan out how much I can spend each week, then dice that out to what do we want to eat? :)

Yeah, my paper is only about 3 pages long, nothing huge. Idea is a gentleman and his family have huge issues and I have to plan out a therapy-docket for them. Sigh. OOOOKKKK. LOL!
