Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Samsfan if you feel ovultaion cramps that is good. Listen to your body and also observe cervical mucus. When I see mine is like egg white I ignore opk. Sounds like you have a good plan. The work up for ivf takes a while and you could get pregnant naturally during this time. It's almost midnight here. Going to  Goodnight Samsfan and Coy :)

Goodnite!!! and thanks!!!!

I'm up watching Billy Joel Sandy relief concert....I'm from Long Island ...so had to see it!

I watched it too but midnight is my limit lol so I didnt see Billy Joel

BTW- I had an ultrasound to check on baby's size on Monday, and the baby is perfect size for gestational age, (50th percentile) and is in the head down position....
Just saying.... I'm all for watching how baby is doing... but this alarmist attitude they (well one midwife anyway) are throwing all over me needs to go!!

Hello Philomena :hugs: So good to hear from you!!! I was thinking very strongly about you and praying that you and baby were doing good. I am sorry that your midwife is stressing you out about your gestational diabetes. :( I thought the purpose of midwives was to go the more natural route and I thought they encouraged home births and relaxation. Since it is just one midwife stressing you could you maybe not go to her anymore? You are right doctors should not push their epidurals and medications on your if you do not want it. :nope: It is your body and you are the one birthing your baby not them.

Yay for baby being the perfect weight and in the head down position! You are in the home stretch now. Soon you will have your precious baby

Samsfan - welcome!! I'm Ali.. I just turned 40 and am trying to conceive as a straight single woman. It has not been easy! I had to start out with a FS as it is not easy to get pregnant as a single lady on your own. There is a couple JandK that have been using their own 'donor' to get pregnant, but unless you have someone willing to give you a sample, you pretty much have to rely on a FS and frozen donor sperm. I have done 3 IUIs and am in the middle of my second (and last) IVF. So that is my history. I am a wealth of knowledge on both IUI and IVF.

If your FS has said that everything is fine and you simply have unexplained infertility, I would ask him to give you your results. Pay particular attention to your FSH, LH, Estrogen and AMH, and anything else that presents as being out of the normal range. This page shows you what the levels should be and what they mean if they are out of range: https://www.fertilityplus.com/faq/hormonelevels.html The only one that is not listed there is AMH, and depending if they used the same type of measurement as they did for me should be above 2. If it is lower than 2 it means that your ovarian reserve is getting compromised and you have less time than you would like left.
Finally as Phil and Never mentioned there are plenty of supplements you can take to improve your fertility and egg quality - maca root, royal jelly (if you aren't allergic to bees), CoQ10, tapioca, etc. Also, I read an article that said that 85% of women with unexplained fertility could be cause by having a gluten intolerance. So maybe try cutting out gluten? There are several articles out there about it, and here is one: https://www.naturallyknockedup.com/could-bread-be-the-cause-of-your-infertility/
Other things to think about.. do you have PCOS? is your thyroid out of sync? These all have huge impacts on your fertility.
Also, you mentioned that you aren't getting a positive OPK, that is troubling as without a LH surge you aren't ovulating. I would discuss that with your FS.
If you were me, I would ask about IUI and using clomid or femara to get some nice follicles, and then they will give you a 'trigger shot' that will help the follicles mature and then ovulate naturally. As Phil said, this is much less expensive. In the US I think 1 IUI was around $900 (that includes all the ultrasounds).
GL!

Morning Ladies :hi:

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you all! I've been running ragged with work. So I have 7 perfect embryos still kicking, and others that are a little behind, but might still be OK for freeze on maybe Sunday? The 7 are all 8 cell and have little to no fragmentation. YAY! That is basically the highest level of embryo you can have on Day 3!!! So my transfer will be on Saturday. I have to be there at 9:30 for acupuncture, and then the transfer will be at 10:30 then I rest for 30 mins then I have another 1/2 hour session of acupuncture and then I go home and am on bed rest Sat/Sun. :happydance: I think that if the 7 keep growing then we'll have some to freeze as I'm only going to transfer 2 back. I'm a little disappointed that more weren't 'perfect' but hey.. I have 7 and that is 2 more than last time!!! :cloud9:

Yes 7 is definitely a lucky number, and I really hope they all do well and are looking great on Saturday!

So I have a funny story.. yesterday as I was heading out the door I received a package and it was from some company I had never heard of and from someone I'd never heard of. It said perishable on it. So I pulled it inside and left for my appt. All the while I Was puzzling over the package. Why and from whom? So last night I open the package and there is some cheese and sausage in it. Still.. not sure who sent it to me and why? Still no idea who this person was? So I tell my friend at work, and she is more inquisitive than I am and wants to have answers. So she calls the company that sent it and got the name of the company that the guy works for that sent it. Turns out that it was a graduation gift sent to all the families of graduating students from the local high school! They bought a mailing list and somehow my name was on it due to geographical reasons, and they didn't scrub the list to only include families that have kids at the school! So I got a $30 cheese and sausage gift box for free! Too funny!

Phil - Not sure if I commented earlier.. my head is like a whirling dervil! Not sure what I have done and what I haven't.. wonder what I will be like when I'm pregnant!! :haha: It sounds like you are doing really well and are all ready for baby to arrive. I wouldn't worry about that one midwife, she is clearly a 'by the book' kind of person and needs every i to be dotted and every t to be crossed. You are doing the best things you can for your baby and for the birth and plan on having your baby as naturally as possible. You are aware that it may not go that way, but as long as things are fine and there are no emergencies, then I don't see why you can't proceed that way! There are plenty of women that don't have any risks at all that end up having an emergency c-section. It is a fact, and when faced with losing the baby or yourself, you'll do the right thing, but there is no need to stress about it or worry now! GEESH!
So happy you have made it to full term and that the baby weight is perfect, and you are perfect!
Now we just need to wait until the babes is ready to arrive!

Phil-

I was watching Dr OZ and they were talking about a couple they had on the show who had infertility due to poor sperm morphology and motility. He mentioned that they did ivf at Shady Grove Fertility without success. Then they said he sent the dh for more tests and they found he had testicular cancer. Then they cut off the show with a special report about Susan Rice withdrawing her name form secretary of state consideration! Why do they always cut Dr Oz off when he is talking about something I am interested in? arrggh!! Show is back on but I totally missed when happened with the couple :( .. He is now talking about Hurricane sandy..

UGH.. I hate it when they do that!!! So annoying. You could search his show online, they usually post articles about each day's show, so maybe you can find it that way?

I looked on his site alli and didnt didnt find it. I did find out something which applies to dh though. He was told he had a varicocele but they never said surgery was necessary. Only bad thing is that it overheats the :spermy: Maybe there are different stages of varicocele. Or did my RE forget about this fact since the urolgist discovered it over 2 years ago? I did ask him why he told me 2 years ago it was dh's sperm and now says it is probably my eggs. Back then he said ICSi would fix it because they are picking out the best sperm. I think he really doesnt know and not honest enough to say so!!

Thinking about my RE is making me feel so annoyed. The more I think about it. He said it would have to be my eggs because sperm renews itself all the time. How can Dh's sperm renew when he was never treated for variococele and they are constantly being over-heated. I think am going to talk dh into going back to the urologist.

Hi everyone...im new to this site...ive just had a sterilisation reversal in September & hoping to pregnant soon...would love to hear any success stories please...im on CD15 :winkwink:

Hello smethurst :) welcome! cycle day 15 have you gotten a positive opk or other signs of ovulation?

Yep! I think it is time for the urologist to step in, and tell him that you are hoping to get pregnant, that my spur him to do more invasive surgery than he normally would. I would assume that the variococele isn't causing him any trouble other than overheating his sperm, and so the urologist probably figure there was no need to fix it. If he knows you are actively trying, maybe they can do something more?

I think you need to find a new RE. Get a second opinion on your situation, get your records from your current RE and bring them with you. Then you can know for sure what the issues are.

Welcome smethurst! Congrats on having your tubes untied! My aunt did that and had 2 babies after the fact!!! Have you had any tests done to see if your tubes are clear? Wishing you the best!!!

Dh just got home and he said that what he has is a hydrocele and not a varicocele. It doesnt cause infertility but can make detecting cancer more difficult. He did have an ultrasound done which was normal. My fault.
I tend to grasp at straws when I think I could have a solution to our problem :dohh:

I ovulated on the 8th Dec which is the immaculate conception. Hope that will bring us luck!

:sadangel: Coy.. did you see my comments about my little embryos!

I have 7 that are considered perfect! Maybe a few more that will catch up. So the transfer is definitely Saturday morning. :happydance:
