Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

It seems like we all have dead straight hair on here, doesn't it? I have recently cut mine really short, well, the left side anyway! It was half way down my back before I went to Egypt last May and it has gradually gotten shorter since then. I like my new style, its quite tom-boyish, but thats me really! Lol!

Coy, you look gorgeous in that pic and I agree with the others, keeping it long is right for you, but I like the pic on the right above.

Ali You are right. Dh snores like a freight train and if I wake up I cant go back to sleep. I just gently roll him on his side. I tried ear plugs but the only ones that don't hurt are the waxy ones and they cause build up in my ears  He would turn on the light when he came to bed after me and that woke me. I usually feel around in the dark if I get up during the night. Well last night I turn a night light on and I continued sleeping so that worked :) The tay-sachs etc that was the saliva test. Yours are probably new ones. I am starting to see that the doctors are better in Canada. Two of my cousins in Ottawa were diagnosed with auto-immune diseases and their doctors are so good at helping them manage their pain. One cousin has lupus and the other syrogen's. They have alot of the same symptoms I have but are 10 and 12 years older than me. They said their symptoms intensified as they got older.

Coy How are you today? Yes I came here thinking the same thing that Phil had her baby.

Philomena we are all thinking of you and your precious baby girl. :hugs:

Interesting about the Tay Sachs - that is something that they determined I didn't need to have tested. I guess it is only recommended for people of French Canadian or Jewish descent? How they would know I'm not either I do not know, especially since I am Canadian and was adopted? HMMM

I did do a DNA test with ancestry.com and found out that I am 26% Scandinavian, 68% British Isles, and 6% unknown. How can I have 6% unknown? I have no idea. Am I an alien?

Coy - :hi: hope you are having a good day!

Phil - baby news? anxiously awaiting an update!!!

AFM - ninja :ninja: today and training a noobie. So that is fun! He is in a new employee type training session right now, so I am free for a bit. It is painful training new people, but I know that in time it will be a great help. Short term pain for long term gain!

I have just been reading all the posts I missed yesterday. You ladies were all very chatty. I was chatting with my Mom on skype for 3 hours.

Ali - I am french-canadian that's why they tested for tay-sachs. I am adopted too. That's why they can't go on family history for my auto-immune issues. My Mom died at age 45 and she had jaundice as a teen and always had a bad liver. My liver is fine. I did inherit her dysmenorrhoea which used to keep her in bed for 2 days. They didnt know about primrose oil and other herbs back then. Sorry that the gardener messed up your sleep-in day. That used to happen to me in Barbados. I had one day off ever 10 day and most times the gardener would be weed-wacking next to my bedroom window and he liked to start at 6 am before the sun got too strong.

You should try magnesium calm for your migraines? It is a powder you can dissolve in water.

Then I felt so sleepy had a nap before the refinance guy came by and then went to bed very early. I don't know why I am so sleepy again today. I woke up at 7:30 and when back to sleep. I am still tired, crazy.

With our gardener, it is the leaf blower at ungodly hours. I like to think there is a special circle of hell for gardeners that mess with my sleep! Lately though, it is the people upstairs, or more specifically, their dog. He has woken my husband and me at 5:30 three mornings in a row. He barks All. Day. Long. I have left three very nice letters for the people telling them it is a problem, and to let me know if I can help with the dog as I know they work all day. I got no reply to the first two, and the third was answered with a rather snarky missive that basically said deal with it. I think not. I now have to take the problem to the property manager. I didn't want to do that to them, but they have given me no other choice!:grr: (I am SO enamored with that little man!)

Hello JenSC :hi:
My dh's good friend's wife was also not ovulating and there was no problem with his sperm. She got pregnant after using clomid.

Ladies can someone look at my chart? I was too tired to get groovy yesterday. Im too tired most of the week. Maybe, that is my problem I think my surge is creaping up on me but I cant tell.

I checked out your chart, and because I have never done bbt, I am not going to be much help with that, but I do think you should trust your body. You have the EWCM, sore breasts, etc., so it sounds like you are very close to ovulating. What day do you normally ovulate? Do you do opks?

Oooh I have always wanted to visit Egypt. Must have been a fascinating trip! How are you TerriLou?

Hello JenSC :hi:
My dh's good friend's wife was also not ovulating and there was no problem with his sperm. She got pregnant after using clomid.

I am always glad to hear that it works! How long did it take her on the Clomid? I am not sure if I am going to do another round of Clomid because of my husband's performance issues. He has not been able to perform a good chunk of the critical days of the two rounds I have done (last month we had sex the day before the opk+ and two days after. This month we had sex the day of the positive. Both months, we attempted other days and he couldn't maintain his erection.) It seems like his ability to do his part is too uncertain to make the Clomid a good gamble... I am not sure.

JenSc- She was on clomid for 2 months before she got pregnant. Does your dh know it is ovulation day? The reason I ask is my hubby says he feels pressured when he knows it is ovulation because he so wants it to work. I dont tell him anything now. I just seduce him and he likes(what he thinks is) unscheduled sex lol This month he woke me up in the middle of the night and wanted to :sex: It was ovulation day and he didn't know it but he must have sensed it.
My dh said that zyrtec gave him the same problem as your dh when he took it daily. He prefers to endure sneezing rather than take antihistamine.

Jen SC -I wasnt sure if the link I wanted to post would but it did. I love the Crystal star products. They are herbs and tinctures and they really work. I have used the women's best friend and other pms products. There are some herbs for men. Ginseng is very good for men. I think the maca has helped my dh. Just a suggestion if you'd like to try natural products as opposed to meds.

You must be pretty strong from cutting all that wood Coy! Must be nice to have a fireplace :)

Jen! I like Never's suggestion. Don't tell your DH it is ovulation time, I have heard that before from other women. That suddenly men just shrink away like OMG there is so much pressure to perform. When are your DH's allergies better? Is there a time of year that they improve on their own? If so, maybe try some non-drug measures of improving your fertility and then when that 'season' where your DH is better, you could step things up and try clomid then? One thing I do know, is that infertility is pretty sucky, and each and everyone of us deals with it differently. So the key is finding a plan that suits you and your DH, and that you are both comfortable with emotionally and financially. Me? I want to know all the facts, and I research the crap out of everything. I'm just that kind of person. I also am single so I have no choice but to go the ART route, and I'm running out of time at 40, plus I have limited financial means to try IVF.

In your situation, with limited finances, and no insurance, clomid does seem to be the best option. However I am a believer in using supplements and oils that have been known to improve fertility (not the witch doctor stuff) but things like vitex, and primrose oil and other vitamins and supplements that do improve egg/sperm quality. Maybe do a little Dr. Google research on other means to help you ovulate, things that may not be as harmful long term? Also set a deadline of how long you and your DH feel is a good timeframe for trying without further testing. I'm a strong believer in having plans, plan A, then B and C. We all hope for plan A, but I'm not on to plan C or D! That is also something to discuss, how far do you as a couple want to take this? Maybe this is the only plan you are both willing to try and if it doesn't work then maybe you both would be ok without having a child? It is something to think about. Tough decisions, but having that communication with your DH and discussing the options will help you figure out what is right for you!

Yep.. the leaf blower kills me too!

I was actually on the other end of a dog barking issue, where I feel I'm only partly to blame. Definitely discuss it with the property manager! A barking dog is not cool. Heck when mine barks it drives me batty too! I got a complaint and that following weekend I ordered a bark collar for my baby (the sweet one on the right in my profile pic). I then had a discussion with my neighbor that was causing all the ruckus 2 feet from my fence, and highly recommended that they move their squealing kids away from my fence. I then called my property manager back and told them that my barking dog is now wearing a bark collar, but that if my neighbors stand beside my fence with their squealing kids antagonizing my dogs, then I'm going to take it off. I also told him that I had spoken to my neighbors and that if he had any specific issues to call me directly and that we could discuss any further modifications to the changes I have made to limit the noise coming out of my dogs. :)

I don't think he realized that the person complaining was taunting the dogs with their kids playing on the sidewalk beside my fence, nor did he realize that they were parking their cars illegally beside my fence (basically using it as their own personal playground/parking lot). So that pretty much fixed the issue!

Anyway, for your issue, the property manager holds more clout! So it sounds like you will have to get them involved. They will have to either get a bark collar or hire someone to go in and walk the dogs or help mitigate the noise somehow.

AFM - its the end of my normal work day and once again the migraine is starting to bother me! YAY! :growlmad: It will be nice when my estrogen levels are back to normal and my head stops hurting! I am thinking about getting back to my gym this weekend now that most of my bloating is gone. I wonder if it is too soon? It may help with some of the headaches too, exercise always seems to make me feel better.

OH! And I have EWCM this morning, So as I expected I will probably be surging around Thurs/Sun. I don't know whether I will bother to POAS as I won't be doing much with that information other than the knowledge that I'm ovulating! LOL. Unless some random guy knocks on my door  Like that is going to happen? :haha:

I don't tell my husband anymore either- pressure is soooo not going to help his problem! I do think Claritin might be contributing to the problem, so he has cut back on that. He doesn't sneeze though, he gets horrible stomach problems, and with working long hours, he really needs to be healthy. It is funny what you said about your husband sensing it: I recently read of a study where women were to wear plain white shirts, then men smelled the shirts. The men thought certain shirts smelled great; they were the shirts the women had worn during ovulation. Pheromones are powerful. We are all just animals, programmed for survival of the species.

I have always had dogs, and I understand how it can be, so I was very sensitive to their feelings, but got nothing. I even offered to walk the damn dog every day! We complained to the property manager. Sorry about the migraine! Misery.

Hey all! Sorry for being such a bad BnBer but things have been crazy.

How is everyone?? I have to say at this point I was not expecting Phil to still be preggers!! How are you feeling girl?

Coy - snow huh, it was in the 40s here and going up to 55 this weekend! I want snow!!

Ali - I hope you get rid of those migraines soon. Is there anything you can to do to help it along? Exercise? Acupuncture?

How is everyone else? I still need to catch up on everyone's posts. I tried last night but had such a headache I fell asleep on the couch early then went up to bed.

I am slowly getting over this cold. I had to go on an antibiotic and cough medicine, but at least the crazy fever is gone. I am still coughing, my nose is a faucet, but I'm getting there. As a result of the fever for 4 days it has delayed ovu, I got a + opk today and ewcm at cd16 which is really late for me. This is going to be a longer cycle as per my acupuncturist. The fever will delay ovu, my period and make the cycle probably 4 days longer to correspong with the 4 days I had a fever. Interesting. I hope to have the energy to bd tonight. I am going to work earlier now. I catch a 6:24 train and not the 6:53, and believe me waking up a 1/2 hr earlier is tough! It is pitch black, but I need to up my game. We hired a 51yr old and a 67 yr old guy and they can live on 5hrs sleep...I cannot. I have done 3 sessions of acupuncture at Yinova and next week I start herbs as well. She said they want my period to start with fresh red blood and not brownish pink like it has been, and the herbs also deepen what they do while I have the needles in. Since I've been going I have been very good about gluten, dairy and eggs. I am taking a more laid back approach to ttc while doing the acupuncture...I need to get things balanced before I go back for a 2nd opinion from another RE. And once this cold is completely gone I am headed back to the gym. For now I am early to bed, early to rise, and trying to get back to healthy!!!

And btw Coy...I'm jealous of your straight hair! Each strand of my hair has a mind of its own and I need to do keratin treatments to tame the frizz in the NY humidity!!!

Once, when my husband I had only been married for three months, we were talking about getting pregnant (we had talked about it before), and I said we should. My husband thought I meant in general, and he agreed. I said "I mean I am ovulating" (that was before I knew there was a problem and was assuming I was based on the old 14 day thing). He put his arms around me, looked in my eyes, and said "then lets make a baby". We then had very tender sex. That is the baby-making memory I hold in my head, not Clomid and all this garbage! No matter what happens, that is a good memory.

We have a fireplace. In south Florida. Does that make sense to anyone?

I bought a fake fireplace! I live in S. FL too! I did it for 2 reasons:
1) I miss the focal point of a fireplace in the room, it seems to anchor it
2) There are about 5 nights a year where it is nice to have heat coming from a fireplace even in S. FL!

So my 'fake' fireplace emits heat and makes me happy! Small price to pay to have my fireplace! Yes, people say I am nuts.. go ahead say it!
