What are my NHS options after having one child already?

Hi all,

I have a question which I thought I'd ask here before I ask my GP eventually.

My husband has low sperm count and poor sperm morphology/motility. I have fibroids and quite a short literal phase. We were fast tracked for IVF+ICSI about two years ago after trying for many years but then we got pregnant naturally with our son, who is just the joy of our lives.

We would really like to have another baby. Given our fertility problems as described above, what are our options? Will the NHS offer any facilities at all or are we not qualified because we already have a child? I just wanted to hear what people's experiences have been and if you have any advice.

Many thanks.

You are entitled to help on NHS until it comes down to assisted conception ie IUI and IVF. So after a year of trying under 35yrs or 6mths over 35yrs you can get your bloodwork checked LH/FSH, 21progesterone, ultra sound (check uterus), HSG (check your tubes) partner SA. If your not ovulating ect will give you clomid.
I have 3teenage girls and was trying to conceive a child with my partner of 11years but unfortunatly i had a HSG in June which showed my tubes to be blocked. Had surgery- lap & dye & hysterscopy to try and unblock them but the blockage was worse than expected. Ivf is now my only option. If you or your parnter have any children NHS will not fund.
Just to note had bloodwork done first by GP and then referred for ultrasound when all came back fine was sent to see FS.
Egg sharing is an option if your under 35/36 and FSH under 8/10 (depends on clinc) some clinics you get IVF paid for fully if you donate half your egg(Basically the recepient pays for your IVF).
Sorry for long post wanted to give you and anyone else who reads this as much information as possible.
Hope you manage to get your BFP without the need for help. x

Thank you so much! I'll speak to my GP and see if they'll take us part of the way. I can totally understand if IVF is not covered. Priority should be given to people without a child - I know how amazing it was for me to have my first.

No problem hun happy to help. Good luck in your journey and i hope you get your BFP with little or no help. x
