what did u expect at the hospital?

Wow its shocking the care some of you ladies had!!

I didn't really know what to expect tbh, all I know is, I'd definitely use derby city general again.. i have nothing but praise for them. They cared for me and looked after me so much.

Urgh, I forgot about the hygiene... there was blood stains up and down the handrail in the bathrooms, which weren't 'cleaned twice daily' as the signs state, there was a pad in the shower both days I was there, if it was cleaned twice daily it would've been gone by the first afternoon! With the scar from the section, I was worried about going into the bathroom incase of infection =/

oh yeh i fully agree that if u have a csection and u physically cant do anything then u should be given more help!! its awful that u didnt, i wouldve soo complained!

its more the people who take the piss u know? like the woman expecting her pad changed when she was perfectly capable, im sorry but i just think thats a bit cheeky!

x

when i was in there was someone in who i think was phillipino or something like that. the first thing she did when she got on the ward was dry her hair!! not my first priority i have to say! she pressed the buzzer for EVERYTHING. n the end a MW came in and said i'm on m own, only buzz if its life threatening. she was like, but its really important. she wa like well what is it? i just wanted to remind you my baby needs suchandsuch a jab. she was like, yea its on our list. did my head in!!

I had a great experience :happydance: the midwife was my community midwife so i felt much more relaxed n she stayed in the room all the time talking to me
and after i ad sam there were complications n she held my hand n told me wat the doc was going to do :happydance: but wat she didnt tell me was that it would hurt more than giving birth
then on the ward thry were also very good at checking on me n sam as i ad a catheter in and also hooked upto to a blood drip aswell x
i cant av anymore kids but if i could i would go back cos they were great x

I cant complain about much except that it was freaking hot in the room and I was about to get naked if they didnt lower the heat ..I had my son in may so it was already hot

I know exactly where your coming from Ellie. I was in a room with four women, two of them were sooooooooo lazy! One woman called the midwives everytime she wanted to get out of bed because she couldnt get her fat arse up herself. Then she had the cheek to moan about the midwives all day and bloody night!

Another woman pressed the buzzer everytime she wanted her babys nappy changed! I couldnt believe it! Yeh they had had c sections but so had I and I did everything by myself, it wasnt difficult.

I had a really good experience in hospital, Im really happy with the way I was treated. I was a real pain in the arse during labour because I was in so much pain with two failed epis and I was terrified. There was always a midwife with me and the anaesthetists kept coming back to see if they was anyway they could help me. They even came back the next day to apologize that the epis didnt work and try and explain why they thought it happened.

I will definitely go back to that hospital next time but i will get a private room next time to avoid moaning miserable women.

i had a really positive experience. I honestly couldnt fault them. They were so lovely, reassuring and cared for me well. The doctor i seen when i was admitted even came to see me the next day when i had delivered, while he was on a break, just to see how i got on and was genuinely interested in how things had gone.I was so grateful to them all. Even on the post natal ward, the MWs came when the buzzer was sounded and kept coming round to see we were all ok and comfortable when the buzzers wernt pressed.

My first time with Chloe i was treated pretty bad. My room was filthy. I was taken straight back to the post natal ward afterwards and my Mum was sent home, i was all still totally numb, was tired from being in labour for about 16 hrs and in shock from the c-sec when i was handed Chloe and a bottle told to feed her but gave me no buzzer to get help when she puked everywhere or put her back in her cot. The final straw came at 5 in the morning when i asked a midwife to change her nappy, i wasnt numb but had a catheter in and still hadnt been up out of bed, she told me id had long enough to recover now i can do it myself and walked out! Later that morning i asked for my catheter to be removed so i could shower get and get out of the nighty id had my op in and i was told no they were too busy.

The next morning an auxilary came round ringing a bell shouting for people who wanted to go home as they were short of beds, i dont think i have ever moved so fast!

I had a relitivly good expreience but then a didn't expect much... Its horrible to c soo many ladies whos special day was ruined by the people who were suppost to be there to help them. I no nurses and midwives r over worked and underpaid and have hard situations to deal with but being polite and listening to patients works better in the long run as they may only have to ask for help once!! Rude and unhelpful health proffessionals get my back up cos i believe its a small minority but one persons bad experience can brand the whole NHS with the same brush - at least it makes the friendly helpful people shine through!!!

I feel i didnt recieve standard care. I had csection and couldnt move due to epidural. I requested a bed bath and had to wait hours sat in my own blood for one. Literally, in a pool, of blood. They didn't help me with caitlyn, neither did they tell me where i could get food. Meh, dont wonna relive that again

Well I thought all my care was good. Yes the food could have been better, but you don't really go to hospital for the food. I didn't get a nurse to shower me but unlike the girl on the tv programme, I didn't expect it! To people who want to be waited on hand and foot I would suggest maybe having a home birth so your husband/ mum/ whoever can see to you and leave the trained midwives to get on with the job of delivering babies!

I'm also shocked by some of the stories on here and I now realise how lucky I was.

I can't believe so many ladies have had such bad experiences :( I guess I was really lucky, I had a midwife most of the time I was in labour, tho she did pop out to see another woman from time to time. As soon as they noticed Joseph's heart rate was dipping slightly they got the consultant in and I had ventouse pretty soon after. I was there for 2 days and I actually had the same midwife during the daytime both days. The only thing that bothered me was they weren't particularly nice to me when I thought Joseph wasn't getting enough milk, I got the impression they thought I was giving up on BF already. Other than that they were great, taught me how to latch him on, picked him up for me because I couldn't get off the bed, gave me a bed bath after labour (really wasn't expecting that one!!) and shockingly the food was actually quite nice! xx

I didn't really know what to expect tbh, all I know is, I'd definitely use derby city general again.. i have nothing but praise for them. They cared for me and looked after me so much.

Totally agree, I had Joseph in Derby and the midwives were lovely, really looked after me x

i had a bad time, i ended up with an emergency c-section and after i could hardly more, i needed help the 1st night cause i wasnt aloud to get up cause my legs were stil numb and when i asked for help they were like its to much trouble for them to help me, i mean i was 20 with a new born baby and was in labour for 4day i would have liked more help, i ended up crying to the head mid wife and the next day i was asked if i wanted to complaine but i said no, i just wanted to go home, next time i will speak up if it happens again.

I have to say that I was really pleased with the NHS during and after my labour.

I was in labour for a long time and had three midwives and two student midwives during it!!! They were all really lovely and helpful. When I wanted an epidural in the last two/three hours of labour, I got one relatively quickly, even though a lot of women were in that night. They were quite prompt at getting me to theatre to remove my placenta when it didn't come away as well. I also got really good aftercare and advice about breast feeding.

The only thing I would have liked, would have been a chance to talk to the doctor about the placenta thing the day afterwards to find out a bit more about why it might have happened. At the time I was knackered and my epidural had been majorly topped up, so I was a bit out of it.

I cant believe what some of you ladies have been through, My 1st birth was wonderful and the midwifes couldnt have done enough for me from the moment i got there.Even though they were busy they constantly came in to see me to see if there was anything i needed, if anything i felt guilty for getting them into the room. My mv even stayed over for the birth of my son and came down to check on me when i was back on the ward the following evening, i had heard awful stories of Doncaster Womens Hospital, but i couldnt fault them. I am so please with them i will be back in 7 months for my 2nd delivery

the midwives during my labour were out of this world.. just brilliant. i couldn't have got better care if i'd gone private.... but the horrific witches on the post natal ward with their god-awful comments and pressure to breastfeed, i will never forget..... i'll be ready for the fuckers the next time around i can tell you.....

I don't know what I was expecting to be honest. But everything was so calm. The midwive was very very kind, and she made my whole labour a nice time. I got offered cups of tea whilst I was bouncing on my ball. I was being asked regularly if I was ok, If I needed any pain relief. If I wanted to watch the tv. Thing's like that. She made me feel welcome. Once labour was over with, she explained everything that she was doing, and what was going to happen, and again made me feel comfortable. I got offered toast, cereal, it was a lovely experience. One thing that didn't happen that she said was they was trying to find me a bed on the ward once i'd gave birth, but I never got to go on it because they was so busy that night so I was left in my delivery room for 6 hours just waiting to go home. But I still can't fault them, they did a wonderful job. :)
