of calling a baby girl-Precious
i want a name that kind of means special, because i tried for 4 years for this baby and the docters said id most likely neverr concieve naturally but i did after such a longg time:D

if you have any other idea's please say:Dxx

I do like the meaning and all that stands behind it but I am not crazy about it as a name.
How about hope, or faith?

Personally I do not like it, I can not imagine an adult being called precious, I love Faith, ELizabeth means gift from god.

Say it out loud as if you're introducing yourself to a prospective employer. Then you'll make the decision to suit.

TBH i think there are other names out there that have lovely sentiment behind them that are perhaps a not more traditional?x

Im not keen on it sorry hun

Its cute for a baby but I think people would struggle to take her seriously when she was older iyswim? xx

I've got to be honest.. i don't like it eventhough it's lovely to have something that means something to you.
I agree with the 1st post.. something like Hope, Faith sounds much better.

I remember a poodle called precious.... I totally understand why you want to use it but it is a bit of a pet name..... Have you tried finding the word precious in diferent languages ie Latin and such, maybe theres a way of saying it another way. In the end though it is your decision and if you like it thats whats important. ;)

Our special name (which was after my grandaddy who died whlist i was carrying my son) is his middle name, for us i felt it made it more special.

But i feel your baby;s name is your choice, and i wish you all the luck in the world !

I really don't care for it (only because you asked!).
Have you tried a name search by meaning?
Just doing that I've come up with Jade and Nadira (meaning rare and precious), Nadia/Nadine (meaning hope), Dora, Dorothy and Thea which mean gift, then there are names that mean angel, grace etc.

Not sure if you've heard of it but Precious is the name of a new movie out, based on the book Push by Saphire.
Not sure how big it will get but its in select theatres. Look it up, if the movie/book gets really popular you may not want to have that as your babies name! Its quite a story.

I don't like it. It reminds me of the Lord of the Rings movies when Golum calls the ring 'my precious'.
I like the idea of names with a similar meaning though. I worked with a girl named Gift, her mum named her that after a long time trying to get pregnant.

I grew up with a girl named Precious and loved the name. Nobody else had it and she was very exotic looking considering where I grew up. I think if you go through alot of names, you can find negative associations with them so I wouldn't make decisions based on that. What are the middle names you are considering to go along with it?

I could never hear the name without Gollum from 'Lord of the Rings' saying it all creepy like inside my head.

Davina and Sherry are both names that mean Cherished. Perhaps if you search on names meaning precious or similar you will find one you like better.

When I hear precious I think of gollum from Lord of the Rings talking to the ring.

I knew a girl named Precious when I was small. It's an okay name!!!
I'd say keep looking though, do a search by meaning like another girl suggested! :)

how about maria? it means wished for child? hehe

I don't like Precious as a name, maybe as a cute pet name (Like Dirty Den called Sharon on Eastenders! lol)

There's some lovely names with great meanings though..
Nadira: Rare and Precious (someone already mentioned but it is lovely)
Adora: Loved child (my favourite)
Aimee, Esme: Loved
Sherree: Darling

If you google baby name meanings you can put in the words that matter to you (like precious etc) and see what comes up!

sorry but no dont like it as a name, lord of the rings springs in to my head.
nice as a pet name.

i think the others look up meanings that you like and then google or name search.
But at the end of the day its up to you.

i dont like the name... its more of a pet name like 'sweetheart' etc xx
